Presentation
Recognising this disease quickly after presentation helps to eliminate the anxiety of the patient, as well as reducing excessively invasive investigations. We present a case report to enlighten Achenbach's syndrome. [okayama.pure.elsevier.com]
The bluish discolouration was present on the finger with sparing of the tip. 55 year old presenting to the A&E department with painful discolouration of the right index finger. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Our patient’s presentation was atypical in that she was younger than the usual presenting age and the 4th digit isn’t commonly affected in an isolated manner. [brownemblog.com]
As for the clinical presentation, it was found that the mean age of presentation was 48 years, and the mean frequency of recurrences was 1.2 per year with an interquartile range of 0.8–2.9. [elsevier.es]
A 66-year-old woman presented with sudden-onset pain and bruising in her right middle finger. She had had a similar episode 3 weeks earlier, which had resolved spontaneously. [nejm.org]

Suggestibility
Our clinical observations suggest that the disease is more common than generally thought. [wjgnet.com]
The acute phase can be very alarming and could suggest more serious vascular disease. In Ireland, this condition is seen occasionally. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
The recurrent and chronic episodes, the progressive coloration changes in the fingers from blue to white and their relation with temperature changes suggest a picture of Raynaud's syndrome. [elsevier.es]

Treatment
3 26774542 BACKGROUND: Paroxysmal finger haematoma (also known as "Achenbach syndrome") is a benign condition resulting in the sudden appearance of bruising on one or more fingers, either spontaneously or after minimal trauma, and resolving without treatment [read.qxmd.com]
The patient's symptoms gradually improved and were completely resolved without specific treatment. Based on the clinical presentation and course, we gave a diagnosis of Achenbach's syndrome, developed in a young male. [okayama.pure.elsevier.com]
There are many different opinions in the general treatment of the disease. Some of these views suggest that there is no need for treatment because of the benign course of the disease and that only follow-up is sufficient[ 10, 23, 24 ]. [wjgnet.com]
Specific treatment is not required, and the patient may recover spontaneously within 1 week with local rest. A general practitioner familiar with the disease can reassure the patient (3). Informed written consent was obtained from the patient. [jmaj.jp]
She had a past history of psoriatic arthritis but was not on any treatment for it. On examination the rest of her limb and digits were well perfused. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
The symptoms can be startling to the patient, eliciting fear of something terrible when, in fact, the syndrome is relatively benign and has a good prognosis. [okayama.pure.elsevier.com]
The etiology and prognosis of the disease is still a mystery. It is of great importance to know whether the syndrome is seen in the brain and vital organs. [wjgnet.com]
Etiology
Kämpfen et al[ 6 ] have proposed the etiology of vasospasm through a case in which ergotamine was used due to migraine. [wjgnet.com]
It is of unknown etiology and has a benign course. Because of its low prevalence, available literature is limited, and most publications are case reports. No Latin-American publications were found on the subject. [elsevier.es]
Etiology may possibly be related to vascular fragility as occasional cases occur after minor trauma, however there is no evidence to support this definitively. [brownemblog.com]
