Presentation
Abstract The case of a 2-year-old Puerto Rican boy is presented. Clinical and histologic features are detailed because he showed peculiar jet black patches of pigmentation on the fingers of the right hand. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT) may present with pigmentation especially on photo-exposed sites, especially in sun-exposed sites; however, it usually presents in adults and is rare in children. [plasticsurgerykey.com]
Sporadic cases presenting in infancy with progressive hyperpigmentation of the fingers and toes are reported as ‘acromelanosis progressiva’ [2] and acromelanosis [1,3]. Some examples of acropigmentation show a reticulate pattern [artamiza.com]
All seven of the present patients were females.440 W.A.D.GriffithsFIG'JRE 3. Whole biopsy. The extent of the maculc was marked on the surface with Indian ink(see arrows). Epidermal atrophy is seen between the arrows (H & E, x 25).FIGURE 4. [documents.tips]
Associated longitudinal melanonychia may also be present. It does not require any treatment. [pigmentinternational.com]

A rare pigmentation anomaly of the skin characterized by otherwise asymptomatic hyperpigmentation of the skin over the dorsal side of fingers and toes which may rapidly spread towards proximal regions, like genitals, abdomen, and thighs. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Abstract Acromelanosis progressiva is a peculiar progressive pigmentary disorder characterized by intensely dark and sharply demarcated hyperpigmentation over the dorsa of fingers and toes, and the pigmentation rapidly spread proximally. [koreamed.org]

There was no atrophy of skin or loss of epidermal ridges over the lesions. There were no similar lesions elsewhere on the body. [ijdvl.com]

No active treatment is required. [pigmentinternational.com]

Treatment. Initial treatment is to prevent further inflammation and depends on the underlying process. Sun protection may help to speed recovery. Treatment of the pigmentation itself is often disappointing. [plasticsurgerykey.com]

Treatment and prognosis The disorder has a a poor prognosis and death is the rule, often in the third decade. [ijdvl.com]
The prognosis is generally better in childhood mastocytosis than in adult disease. The cause of pigmentation in these conditions is not yet fully understood. [plasticsurgerykey.com]

This review paper is an attempt to classify acral pigmentation based on its diverse etiological causes [Table 1] and to delineate the associated clinical presentation. [pigmentinternational.com]
Furthermore, both cases involved diffuse hyperpigmentation that predominantly affected the face, suggesting a similar etiology. [academic.oup.com]
