The patient reported that this condition has been present since birth. The major part of the tongue was absent and sublingual tissues in floor of the mouth were relatively hypertrophied. [go.gale.com]
However an isolated case of aglossia without any other associated congenital malformation has been reported and presented here. The tongue is a vital organ not only for humans but for animals also. It serves various functions. [jisppd.com]
The present case report did not examine speech in detail. [ijdr.in]

An investigative protocol to aid in the treatment planning of a patient with hypoglossia has also been suggested. Introduction Hypoglossia or microglossia is a rare congenital anomaly, manifested by the occurrence of a small or rudimentary tongue. [go.gale.com]

Prognosis
Thus, corroborating above statements that hypoglossia with limb anomalies has a poor prognosis. Tongue is the most agile, adept and versatile appendage in the human body. [ijdr.in]
Etiology
The etiology of such anomalies is debatable. About 30 cases of Hanhart syndrome have been reported in the literature between 1932 and 1991. A few of them had intra- familial recurrences. [jisppd.com]
Although a number of theories have been proposed, an etiology of this syndrome is unknown. [ijdr.in]
Prevention
The aglossia, cleft palate, and micrognathia associated with this syndrome produced additional difficulties in induction of general anesthesia, maintenance of difficult airway, and prevention of aspiration during perioperative period. [8] Grippaudo et [jisppd.com]
