Presentation
Often, AFO presents clinically as a hamartoma or immature odontoma; however, the tumor can also present with progressive growth causing bone destruction and significant deformity, acting more like a true neoplasm. [ohsu.pure.elsevier.com]
Santos et al. 16 recommended long-term follow-up, although the AFO presents a low rate of recurrence. [scielo.br]
The present case sits in the classical age group with eight years at the time of presentation in a boy, which was a typical feature. [ijcasereportsandimages.com]
Clinical Presentation AFO has a slight female predilection; the mean age of presentation is from ages 8 to 12, with painless swelling of the mandible and delayed tooth eruption. [ajnr.org]
Intraorally, an erythematous area was present on the right mandibular posterior alveolus area [Figure 2]. The overlying surface appeared rough. The color varied from red to yellow. Slough was present in the affected area. [jiaomr.in]

Falling
Generally it is seen in the first and second decades of life, which might also be a characteristic of the lesion. 3,4 However, AFO may also occur at advanced ages. 5,6 Previously, Philipsen et al. 7 declared that the mean age of AFO cases falls when compared [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Soft Tissue Mass
Intraoral examination revealed a large 4.5x3 cm soft tissue mass on the right maxillary alveolar area involving primary molars and permanent 1st and 2nd molar region. [ijcasereportsandimages.com]

Gingival Swelling
There was no gingival swelling or redness on his first molar lesion. An oral examination disclosed no expansion of the right mandible, and the gingiva mucosa in the lesion appeared normal. There was no history of local trauma or infection. [sdsjournal.com]

Paresthesia
Pain and paresthesia in the affected region are uncommon findings. [2] Radiographically, the periphery of this tumor is usually well defined and sometimes corticated. Internal structure of AFO is mixed, with majority of lesions being radiolucent. [jiaomr.in]
[…] that the lesion is found equally in the posterior mandible and maxilla. [7], [10], [12], [13] Clinically, it presents as a painless, slow-growing tumor, often associated with swelling and unerupted tooth as in the present case. [3] However, pain and paresthesia [cancerjournal.net]
Treatment
Ethical approval This case report is the surgical treatment of an odontogenic tumour in the maxilla. The treatment of Amelobalstic fibro odontoma is surgical excision. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
AFO has a good prognosis and recurrence is uncommon. A 5-year-old girl with a non-painful “curving” in her mandible, enlarging over the past 2 weeks. View Case [ajnr.org]
Treatment and prognosis Conservative surgical enucleation is the treatment of choice in well defined non-aggressive lesions. However, in destructive lesions, surgical resection with partial maxillectomy or partial mandibulectomy may be required. [radiopaedia.org]
Thus, its prognosis is favorable and the rate of recurrence is low. [scielo.br]
[…] varies from 0.3% to 1.7% reaching 4.6% when only the cases in children are considered. [3] Radiographic findings are often similar to complex odontoma resembling tiny teeth surrounded by radiolucent capsule. [4] AFO is usually treated by enucleation and prognosis [ijdr.in]
Treatment of AFO includes conservative surgery with enucleation. [5] Prognosis is excellent. [6] In this article, we report a case of AFO in a 20-year-old male patient, with details on its clinical features and differential diagnosis. [jiaomr.in]
Epidemiology
It has been described using a variety of terms such as immature ameloblastic odontoma. [6] AFO is seldom reported in literature due to the rarity of incidence and accounting for 1%–3% of all odontogenic tumors. [3] Three epidemiological studies till date [cancerjournal.net]

Prevention
OPG showed unerupted tooth bud of upper right second molar and was being prevented from eruption by the odontome. Under general anaesthesia, the lesion was enucleated and the permanent right upper second molar tooth bud removed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
