Presentation
METHODS: The author conducted a search of the literature using Medline (Ovid, 1946-present) and PubMed (1966-2013) for English-language studies that included the following search terms: 'testosterone' or 'androgen' combined with 'women', 'therapy' or [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
However, the next presentation from CALGB/Alliance (S2-05) showed different results. [bcaction.org]
Post-webinar follow-up: For those who were unable to catch the live show, it is now possible to listen to the entire presentation and watch Dr. Denmeade’s slide presentation if you click here for the Youtube link. [prostatecancerinfolink.net]

- Virilization
Each of the subjects had male-gender behavior but incomplete virilization. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Androgen-related side effects include virilization, elevated transaminases, blood lipid abnormalities, hepatic tumors, and liver and spleen peliosis. These effects have not been prospectively studied in DC. [bloodjournal.org]
- Congestive Heart Failure
If initial screening reveals evidence of congestive heart failure or valvular or other structural heart disease, an echocardiogram should be obtained. [ahajournals.org]
This may lead to congestive heart failure (the inability of your heart to pump enough blood for your body) if you have heart, liver, or kidney disease. [everydayhealth.com]

It is effective for 70% of those with hirsutism. Several different regimes are prescribed with doses ranging from 25 to 200 mg daily. [dermnetnz.org]
Voice change and mild hirsutism were observed in most of the women receiving nandrolone decanoate, and these secondary effects constitute a real disadvantage to its use in females. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
All males reported priapism; females reported hirsutism and hoarseness of voice. In summary, patients with DC and BMF may achieve transfusion-independence when treated with androgens. [bloodjournal.org]

The typical side effects related to the estrogentestosterone preparations are alopecia, acne, and hirsutism, although these are dose and duration dependent and are not common. 34 Controlled studies 32, 35, 48, 51 have found low incidence of deep voice [aafp.org]

These side effects range from hot flashes and loss of bone density to mood swings, weight gain, and erectile dysfunction. [pcf.org]

Low energy levels, mood swings, irritability, poor concentration, reduced muscle strength and low sex drive can be symptoms of androgen deficiency (low testosterone). Symptoms often overlap with those of other illnesses. [andrologyaustralia.org]

Symptoms included abnormally large genitalia (penis and clitoris), advanced bone age, early puberty and aggressive behavior. Young boys may even develop enlarged breasts. A doctor should be contacted right away if these symptoms occur. [drugwatch.com]

Treatment
Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) has been the core treatment of advance-staged disease since the discovery of prostate cancer's androgen dependence in 1941 by Huggins et al. [1] Options for initial medical treatment include gonadotropin-releasing hormone [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Prognosis
Older patients with AML have a poor prognosis, owing in part to low tolerance to intensive chemotherapy regimens. [medpagetoday.com]
A single study demonstrated that androgen priming in a small group of patients (n=85) using chemotherapy regimens that are now outdated altered the prognosis 13. [uroweb.org]
