Our experience of treating 15 patients with saddle nose deformity secondary to atrophic rhinitis is presented. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Heat Intolerance
Abstract Hypohidrotic/anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a rare inherited disorder characterized by hypohidrosis/anhidrosis, hypotrichosis, dysodontia and heat intolerance. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Anosmia
Atrophic rhinitis is a disease which manifests itself mainly by anosmia due to dryness and atrophy of the nasal mucosa. There is no specific therapy for the disease at present. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Moderate variety features anosmia and stench emanating from the nasal cavity. Severe variety is invariably caused by syphilis. [archive.org]
The various symptoms include foetor (strong offensive smell), crusting/nasal obstruction, nosebleeds, anosmia (loss of smell) or cacosmia (hallucination of disagreeable odour), secondary infection, maggot infestation, nasal deformity, pharyngitis, otitis [cochrane.org]

Saddle Nose

The nose may show a saddle-nose deformity. Atrophic rhinitis is also associated with similar atrophic changes in the pharynx or larynx, producing symptoms pertaining to these structures. [en.wikipedia.org]

Hyposmia
Actually, the orthonasal psychophysical testing showed that four patients out of nine had anosmia, three out of nine had hyposmia and two out of nine were normosmic. All the patients demonstrated retro-olfaction scores inferior to the normal values. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Regurgitation
It was diagnosed clinically by the regurgitation test and lacrimal syringing. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Anhidrosis
Abstract Hypohidrotic/anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a rare inherited disorder characterized by hypohidrosis/anhidrosis, hypotrichosis, dysodontia and heat intolerance. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Upper respiratory tract infection Hoarse voice Asthma Dry lips and mouth Fever Shortness of breath Hemoptysis Constipation Thirst Dry skin and hair Dryness in nose Sensation of fullness in chest Epistaxis Hypochondriac pain Chills and fever Headache Anhidrosis [americandragon.com]

Epistaxis
The common symptoms may include foetor, ozaena, crusting/nasal obstruction, epistaxis, anosmia/cacosmia and secondary infection with maggot infestation. Its prevalence varies in different regions of the world and it is common in tropical countries. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Therefore, narrowing of the nasal airway size helps in relieving the symptoms, especially frequent Epistaxis. For this, techniques such as Teflon submucosal injection. [medicforyou.blogspot.com]
Bleeding from the nose, also called epistaxis, may occur when the dried discharge (crusts) are removed. Septal perforation and dermatitis of nasal vestibule can occur. The nose may show a saddle-nose deformity. [en.wikipedia.org]
Clinical, endoscopic, radiological features: The clinical symptoms include nasal obstruction, epistaxis, impaired olfaction, purulence and crusting. [scitechnol.com]

Cleft Lip and-or Palate
Features like atrophic rhinitis, nasal and aural myiasis, syndactyly, cleft lip and/or palate, mental retardation and immunodeficiency are uncommonly seen in this syndrome. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) studying any treatment or combination of treatments in patients with atrophic rhinitis. We excluded studies with follow-up of less than five months following treatment/intervention. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Prognosis
Prognosis There is a tendency to recover spontaneosly. [drpaulose.com]
Prognosis The disease persists for years but there is a tendency to recover spontaneously in middle age. Treatment It may be medical or surgical. 1. Medical. Complete cure of the disease is not yet possible. [earnosethroatclinic.blogspot.com]
Prognosis. It is beyond question that this disease is one of the most intractable to deal with in the whole field of medicine, and from the very nature of the case it is held by a very large number of most eminent authorities to be incurable. [operatingmicroscopes.com]
Etiology
Excessive turbinate surgery has been both acquitted and accused in the literature as an etiology for secondary atrophic rhinitis. We saw 242 patients with the diagnosis of atrophic rhinitis between 1982 and 1999. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Conclusion: No specific etiological factor is known for AR but possibly more than one factor is responsible for etiology. More prevalent in the people of lower socioeconomic status. [scopemed.org]
Epidemiology
It has unique epidemiological features and clinical characteristics. Clinicians and researchers for decades have tried to postulate theories for the aetiology of the primary form of the disease. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Pathophysiology
Other pathophysiological mechanisms must be searched for. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prevention
Prevention and treatment of the disease is discussed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Hard to remove crusts can be removed by forceps once they are softened by irrigation Painting the nasal mucosa with 25% glucose in glycerol – helps prevent growth of bacteria so that foul smell does not occur Antibiotic sprays Oestradiol spray – to improve [pgblazer.com]
Prevention of atrophic rhinitis The development of atrophic rhinitis can be prevented by following some instructions. It is essential to avoid close contact with the dust that has silica, cement or tobacco nature. [respiratory.vsebolezni.com]
