Presentation
A case report of recreational overdose of benztropine in a 19 year old schizophrenic patient is presented. Delirium and anti-cholinergic manifestations persisted for five days necessitating prolonged hospitalization. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

sweating, dermatoses Interactions Drug-drug. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]
This drug can cause decreased sweating, which could cause a severe rise in your body temperature ( hyperthermia ). The risk of this serious side effect is greater in hot weather, during vigorous exercise, and/or if you drink alcohol. [webmd.com]
Treatment
At 6 weeks after withdrawal of treatment, all animals were tested for catalepsy after receiving 2.5 mg/kg H. During the chronic treatment phase, H inhibited and B enhanced spontaneous oral activity. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Indications: The symptomatic treatment of all etiologic groups of parkinsonism and drug-induced extrapyramidal reactions. [rxmed.com]
Other therapy, such as parathyroid hormone and/or vitamin D, may be indicated according to the etiology of the tetany. It is also important to institute oral calcium therapy as soon as practicable. Yes! [indiamart.com]

Prevention
Abstract The frequency of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) attributed to chlorpromazine among 86 patients who received benztropine for the prevention of EPS (9.3%) was similar to that of the 568 patients who received chlorpromazine alone (10.6%). [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
If patient is alert, induce emesis (or use gastric lavage) and follow with a saline solution cathartic and activated charcoal to prevent further absorption. [glowm.com]
Benztropine may also be prescribed to prevent these side effects before they actually occur. This is called as prophylactic (preventative) therapy. Precautions Benztropine should never be used in children under age three. [minddisorders.com]
Benztropine is also used to treat and prevent these symptoms when they are caused by drugs such as chlorpromazine ( Thorazine ), fluphenazine ( Prolixin ), perphenazine ( Trilafon ), and others. [drugs.com]
