Bowel Stenosis
Bowel Stricture

Presentation

The most common presentation was pain and vomiting with abdominal distension, noted in 5 patients; but three patients presented only with abdominal pain. The strictures were solitary in all cases, with the most common site being the terminal ileum. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Delays in presentation from the time of blunt abdominal trauma to the time of presentation of obstructive symptoms have been documented to be as long as 26 years in European literature [1]. [file.scirp.org]

This paper that we would like to present has already been accepted and published by the Journal of Surgical Science in 2014. Email: [email protected] PDF HTML [omicsonline.org]

Gastrointestinal

  • Intestinal Disease

The radiographic findings associated with post-ischemic strictures mimicked those of various intestinal diseases such as Crohn's disease, NSAID-induced enteropathy and/or CMUSE (4). [kjronline.org]

Keywords: Crohn disease, Constriction, pathologic, Intestines, Diagnosis, Disease management INTRODUCTION Crohn's disease (CD), an IBD, is the chronic inflammation of unknown etiology involving any part of the gastrointestinal tract. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Workup

A workup for intermittent porphyria was also pursued prior to her presentation, which likewise was negative. [karger.com]

CT enterography, MR enterography or capsule endoscopy in the workup before DBE. Endpoints included stricture description, dilatation parameters and response to treatment. Main outcome measurements were the safety and efficacy of DBE and dilatation. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

X-Ray

  • Colonic Stricture

We describe a patient with a benign stricture and volvulus of transverse colon, a life threatening but treatable complication of scleroderma bowel disease. [jhu.pure.elsevier.com]

A colon stricture is a narrowing of the passageway of the colon. As a result, waste cannot move properly through the digestive tract and becomes obstructed in front of the stricture. [colon-cleanse-constipation.com]

stricture is a narrowing of part of the colon. [wisegeekhealth.com]

Contrast examination of the large bowel demonstrated a recurrent transverse colon stricture and new ascending colon and small bowel strictures. [pmj.bmj.com]

Treatment

However, bowel stricture may develop due to intestinal ischemia which may require surgical treatment. This report describes a rare case of small bowel stricture occurring one month after successful treatment of SMV thrombosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

94.4% failed treatment. [healio.com]

Intestinal StrictureHeal is a two-step treatment protocol; there is the oral (or internal) component and then there is the topical treatment. [listentoyourgut.com]

We considered that the first treatment of choice for malignant stenosis is surgery, including resection or bypass for palliative treatment. Indeed, we selected surgical treatment for malignant small-bowel strictures at 88% (14/16). [hindawi.com]

Prognosis

The prognostic score defined a good prognosis group with 43/49 successes, an intermediate prognosis group with 17/28 successes and a poor prognosis group with 1/16 successes. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Of the 49 patients defined as having a good prognosis, 88.1% achieved treatment success; of the 77 patients defined as having a good or intermediate prognosis, 77.7% achieved treatment success; and of the 16 patients defined as having a poor prognosis [healio.com]

Prognosis[edit] The prognosis for non-ischemic cases of SBO is good with mortality rates of 3–5%, while prognosis for SBO with ischemia is fair with mortality rates as high as 30%.[26] Cases of SBO related to cancer are more complicated and require additional [en.wikipedia.org]

Obstruction not associated with cancer has a very good prognosis, especially in otherwise healthy people. [womenshealthmag.com]

Etiology

Abstract Henoch-Schönlein purpura is a multisystem disorder of unknown etiology that primarily affects children. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Third, small-bowel strictures were caused by several etiologies. Although we examined various etiologies of small-bowel strictures in the non-CD group, the list remains limited. [hindawi.com]

While this condition remains rare, there has been a substantial rise in the use of the most important etiologic factor; namely NSAIDs. [karger.com]

Epidemiology

In this book, leading experts from the USA, Europe and Israel present new data on the genetics, epidemiology, pathology and pathogenesis of pediatric IBD. Imaging and endoscopy in the diagnosis of IBD are also discussed. [books.google.com]

Prevention

How can I prevent colon strictures? You may not be able to prevent strictures if you have certain chronic conditions, such as Crohn disease. The following may help to prevent colon strictures: Eat a variety of healthy foods. [drugs.com]

Since the cause of ischemic colitis isn't always clear, there's no certain way to prevent the disorder. [mayoclinic.org]

Rectal bleeding Formation of a narrowing of the colon that prevents easy passage of stool (called a stricture) Formation of a tract or tunnel to another organ or the skin (called a fistula). [fascrs.org]

Of course, if the colon stricture is caused by a serious condition such as cancer, the underlying cause must be treated first to prevent further damage to the colon or other parts of the body. [colon-cleanse-constipation.com]

Prevention You may be able to reduce your risk of some forms of bowel obstruction by modifying your diet and lifestyle. [womenshealthmag.com]
