Presentation
We described an adult male presenting with well defined, purplish papules of varying size with verrucous to smooth surface distributed discretely over medial side of the left thigh, scrotum, and penile shaft. [cdriadvlkn.org]
It is related to HPV, and presents with gray-brown elevated papules or plaques. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Entire Body System
- Asymptomatic
A 34-month-old Haitian girl had a six-month history of asymptomatic vulvar papules. Histologic features and DNA probe studies were diagnostic of bowenoid papulosis. Resolution of the lesions was enhanced by cryotherapy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
All the lesions were asymptomatic during most of the time. For the last few months one of the larger lesions of the scrotum started increasing in size and was associated with pain. There was also oozing from the lesion. [ijdvl.com]

Penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN) is the standardized terminology for pathologic reporting, which may be integrated with clinical presentation for diagnosis of bowenoid papulosis (Eur Urol 2016;70:93) Bowenoid papulosis is no longer a term used by pathologists [pathologyoutlines.com]

- Inflammation
Risk factors The following risk factors may increase a man’s chance of developing PeIN: HPV infection inability to fully pull back (retract) the foreskin over the glans (called phimosis) poor genital hygiene long-term (chronic)irritation, inflammation [cancer.ca]
Inguinal nodes may be enlarged due to inflammation and secondary infection. If cancer is suspected, biopsy is required; if possible, tissue under the lesion should be sampled. [merckmanuals.com]
Inflammation, which starts as a phlegmon, quickly forms boundaries and an abscess develops in most cases. [science.gov]

The favored clinical diagnosis was candidiasis. Histologically, the biopsy specimen showed severe epithelial dysplasia. Three additional oral biopsies of different sites were performed and revealed similar histology. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Two patients transplanted before routine prophylaxis with the use of nystatin developed esophageal candidiasis in the 1st 6 months after transplantation. [science.gov]

Grade 3 to 4 events were neutropenia (n = 5), nausea (n = 2), chest pain (n = 2), deep vein thrombosis (n = 1), transaminitis (n = 1), and dehydration (n = 1). [science.gov]

Side effects included transient anorexia, vomiting and lethargy in some dogs, increased shedding of hair and gingival hyperplasia. [science.gov]

It occurs on the genitalia of both sexes in sexually active young people as well-demarcated pigmented warty papules. Affects all races equally. The condition was originally described in 1977 by Kopf and Bart as papules on the penis. Bibliography A. [whonamedit.com]
Clinical variants of BP such as papules coalescing to form plaques, lichenoid papules, macules, and leukoplakia-like lesions have been described. [1] In the present case, both genital and adjacent extragenital sites were involved. [cdriadvlkn.org]
Skin biopsies were taken from the asymptomatic papule and from the edge of the ulcerated scrotal lesion. The papule showed near absence of maturation and moderate atypia of the squamous cells. Mitotic figures were seen above the basal layer. [ijdvl.com]

The symptoms of abdominal pains, sleep disorders, loss of appetite, hyperactivity and occasional slimy stools appeared later. Proglottids on the underwear, in water while bathing and mobile proglottids passed with the stool were also observed. [science.gov]
Urogenital
- Genital Lesions
The human papillomavirus causes a variety of genital lesions: condyloma acuminatum, bowenoid papulosis (carcinoma in situ), and squamous cell carcinoma. Only condylomata have been documented to be sexually transmitted. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Discussion Bowenoid papulosis is clinically a benign appearing genital lesion showing histologic features of squamous cell carcinoma-in-situ. [ijdvl.com]
In 1987 Lookingbill et al2 described one of the first reported cases of oral disease in a 33-year-old immunosuppressed man receiving prednisone therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus who had both mouth and genital lesions. [mdedge.com]
These include common warts, flat pityriasis versicolor suh as lesions in epidermodysplasia verruciformis, oral and laryngeal papillomas, and various genital lesions. [4] Immune response appears to play a role in the development of BP. [cdriadvlkn.org]
- Pruritus Vulvae
The main symptoms of pinworm infection include pruritus and bruxism. [science.gov]
Workup
The histologic workup of the resection specimen revealed patchy high-grade vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia Grade 3 (VIN 3) and 2 microscopic foci of superficially invasive squamous cell carcinoma. [science.gov]
Treatment
The treatment for BP is conservative as it usually regresses spontaneously. [jddonline.com]
Imiquimod has proven effective in combating viral infections as well as UV-induced (pre) malignant lesions, and seems also effective in the treatment of BP.Because so far imiquimod treatment has not been related to the physical status of HPV, we present [clincancerres.aacrjournals.org]
(Topical treatment of BP of the penis with imiquimod 5% cream every other day for 8 weeks resulted in no recurrences 3 months after cessation of treatment.) Nakanishi, G, Yamasaki, O, Nagao, Y, Tanaka, T. [dermatologyadvisor.com]
Treatment - Bowenoid papulosis Because Bowenoid papulosis usually runs a benign course with many cases spontaneously regressing, treatment is often unnecessary. [checkorphan.org]

Prognosis
Bowenoid papulosis may be a chronic dysplasia with a variable long-term prognosis linked to a cocarcinogenic factor. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Bowenoid papulosis may be a chronic dysplasia with a variable long-term prognosis linked to a cocarcinogenic factor. ( Arch Dermatol 1984;120:514-516) [jamanetwork.com]
It has poor prognosis due to invasion depth and increased risk of metastasis. We present the case of a 56-year-old man who developed an invasive penile squamous-cell carcinoma after a six-year history of Bowenoid papulosis. [rojced.com]
Prognosis - Bowenoid papulosis The condition usually resolves itself with time but they should be regularly checked due to the risk of malignancy. [checkorphan.org]
For these reasons the prognosis of someone with bowenoid papulosis is quite good. The elderly, HIV patients, and people who are otherwise immunosuppressed are at a higher risk for progression into malignancy. [contourderm.com]
Etiology
The distinction between the two lesions is of importance as Bowen's disease represents a precancerous dermatosis and bowenoid papulosis a probably benign lesion of viral etiology. [unboundmedicine.com]

Evidence supports an etiologic role of human papillomavirus (HPV), particularly type 16. HPV-16 is also associated with an increased risk for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and invasive carcinoma. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Epidemiology
The discovery of a possible oncogenic virus in BP and the epidemiologic behavior of carcinoma in situ and multicentric carcinomas suggest the need for a very careful follow-up evaluation of such lesions. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
