Presentation
Abstract We present the first documented case of a bilateral prosthetic knee joint infection with Campylobacter fetus. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
We present an unusual and rare manifestation of C. fetus, a case of prosthetic joint infection successfully treated by medical therapy alone. [experts.umich.edu]
Gastrointestinal
- Abdominal Pain
Campylobacter infection is characterized by diarrhea (frequently bloody), abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and sometimes vomiting. [cdc.gov]
Seven days later, he once again came to the ER with intense abdominal pain. [elsevier.es]
Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, and myalgia. Stools are malodorous and frequently bloody. Inflammation involves the gastrointestinal tract from jejunum to anus. [histopathology-india.net]
He denied any gastrointestinal disturbances including diarrhea or abdominal pain during or before this illness. He also denied close contact with animals and eating of undercooked meat or unpasteurized milk. [jmedicalcasereports.biomedcentral.com]
She had no abdominal tenderness or normoactive bowel sounds. [bmcinfectdis.biomedcentral.com]
- Nausea
Campylobacter infection is characterized by diarrhea (frequently bloody), abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and sometimes vomiting. [cdc.gov]
Case presentation A 33-year-old woman, who was on maintenance chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), presented to our clinic with chief complaints of severe headache and nausea. [bmcinfectdis.biomedcentral.com]
Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, and myalgia. Stools are malodorous and frequently bloody. Inflammation involves the gastrointestinal tract from jejunum to anus. [histopathology-india.net]
Neurologic
- Headache
Her headache and nausea had started after receiving an intrathecal chemotherapy (methotrexate, cytarabine, and prednisolone) 2 weeks before; thus, she initially interpreted the headache as post-lumbar-puncture pain and consumed painkillers (loxoprofen [bmcinfectdis.biomedcentral.com]
Treatment
The treatment of choice for most infections is gentamicin, with chloramphenicol recommended for infection involving the central nervous system. Tetracyclines and erythromycin are alternative agents. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
The duration of treatment for C. fetus-related bacteremia is not well defined, but a minimum of 3 weeks of treatment has been suggested to avoid relapse.11 Patients need to be followed for the potential of recurrence with fatal septic shock, even in immune-competent [dovepress.com]
The recommended antimicrobials and duration of treatment for C. fetus infections are yet to be established. [bmcinfectdis.biomedcentral.com]
The infection can also be eliminated in bulls by treatment with streptomycin (20 mg/kg, SC, 1–2 treatments) together with 5 g of streptomycin in an oil-based suspension applied to the penis for 3 consecutive days. [vetbook.org]
Treatment with meropenem, erythromycin, prednisone, and IVIG was started. The results of cultures of blood samples were negative. After 6 days, the patient developed renal failure and epistaxis. [cid.oxfordjournals.org]

Etiology and Epidemiology: The cause is the motile, gram-negative, curved or spiral, polar flagellated, microaerophilic bacteria Campylobacter fetus venerealis or C fetus fetus. [merckvetmanual.com]

Prolonged therapy is essential to the prevention of relapse. A high index of suspicion is necessary for the recognition of this organism in the appropriate clinical settings. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Despite rare occurrence, control measures are recommended in order to prevent the spread of the agent to other herds. Keywords : Bubalus bubalis; bovine genital campylobacteriosis; bovina genital. [scielo.br]
Prevention As there are no authorised vaccines available in the UK, prevention is based on maximising biosecurity. [nadis.org.uk]
