Presentation

A 40-year-old man presented with laryngeal papillomatosis 19 years after being treated with surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy for leiomyosarcoma of the cervical esophagus. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Hematological

  • Easy Bruising

bruising, unusual bleeding, pale skin, cold hands and feet, feeling light-headed or short of breath; or pancreatitis --severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting. [cigna.com]

Entire Body System

  • Intravenous Administration

Local cidofovir therapy for viral hemorrhagic cystitis could be an alternative to intravenous administration of cidofovir. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Subcutaneous administration produces exposure equivalent to that following intravenous administration. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Intravenous Drugs

Because of this infrequent dosing schedule, patients do not need to have a catheter surgically implanted, as is required for other intravenous drugs for cytomegalovirus. [aidsmap.com]

The risk factor for HIV infection was intravenous drug use in five, and sexual risk relationships in three. [journals.lww.com]

  • Crying

A previously healthy, full-term, 4-month-old boy presented with progressively weakening cry, hoarseness, and increased work of breathing. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Treatment

OBJECTIVE: The treatment of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) continues to be difficult. Adjuvant pharmacological treatment is increasingly being used, and intralesional cidofovir injection remains the leading option. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Prognosis

Potent thymidine phosphorylase (TP) inhibitors with anti-angiogenic activity are required to improve the prognosis of patients with TP-positive tumors. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Our results suggest that cidofovir-treated children have a better prognosis compared to those treated surgically only; the duration of treatment until eradication of JRRP was shorter in the former. [scielo.br]

Etiology

In a study of the etiology and epidemiology of acute viral lower respiratory tract infections of South Korean soldiers in our institution, six cases of severe AdV pneumonia were identified. [journals.plos.org]

Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is the etiologic agent of exanthema subitum, a febrile rash illness that can occur during early childhood and that is occasionally accompanied by convulsions. [academic.oup.com]

Pathophysiology

The pathophysiology of AdV pneumonia remains unclear; few studies have been performed. [journals.plos.org]

Prevention

Mechanism of action Acting as an antiviral agent by preventing the replication of CMV, cidofovir targets viral DNA polymerase and prevents transcription. [web.stanford.edu]

Nausea and vomiting due to probenecid may be prevented by taking it after meals. [webmd.com]

Cell death was specific as it was also present in a human proximal tubular epithelial cell line (HK-2), but not in a human kidney fibroblast cell line, and was prevented by probenecid. An inhibitor of caspase-3 (DEVD) prevented cidofovir apoptosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
