Presentation
Defects in the calcium-sensing receptor gene: Presents as hypocalcaemia, inappropriately normal levels of PTH and raised phosphate levels. This is not true hypoparathyroidism but its presentation mimics it. Can present from birth to adulthood. [patient.info]
CMC affected patients frequently present autoimmune endocrine disorders. [scielo.br]
T-cell disorders usually present early in life. The most serious form of T-cell disorder, severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), presents in infants as an emergent condition with life-threatening infections. [aafp.org]
Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis often presents on the hands, nails, and other membranous tissues. [wisegeek.com]

Treatment
Since Candida Albicans is supposed to be present in healthy people, treatment is very rarely needed. [rarediseases.org]
Radiation or drugs: Neck or chest irradiation during radiotherapy treatment. Radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism: a rare side-effect. Chemotherapeutic/cytotoxic agents. Alcohol. [patient.info]
These factors are unknown, but vaginal candidiasis is associated with pregnancy, diabetes and antibiotic treatment. Ketoconazole is a promising new agent for treatment of chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis. [streetdirectory.com]
She has excellent tolerance of the treatment. The disease is under control and relapses when she defaults therapy. Topical treatment is of little value. [vgrd.org]
Treatment may include antifungal medications, immunological treatments or a combination of these therapies. Research is ongoing, so if you have been diagnosed with CMC, talk with your doctor and specialists about the most current treatment options. [diseaseinfosearch.org]
Prognosis
Nails may be markedly thickened, fragmented, and discolored, with significant edema and erythema of the surrounding periungual tissue, simulating clubbing Prognosis - Candidiasis familial chronic mucocutaneous- autosomal recessive Not supplied. [checkorphan.org]
Prognosis The regular monitoring required to ensure appropriate calcium levels means that the prognosis is challenging for many people. This may improve if synthetic PTH becomes widely available. [patient.info]
In isolated CMC, the prognosis is good; however, the significant morbidity is related to chronic and persistent skin, nail, and mucous membrane candidal infections. [emedicine.medscape.com]
Etiology
We report two genetic etiologies of CMCD: autosomal recessive deficiency in the cytokine receptor, interleukin-17 receptor A (IL-17RA), and autosomal dominant deficiency of the cytokine interleukin-17F (IL-17F). [science.sciencemag.org]
Patients are considered to have CMC disease when CMC is the hallmark feature without other prominent clinical signs or genetic etiologies such as severe combined immunodeficiency ( SCID ) and combined immunodeficiency ( CID ), where CMC is a component [invitae.com]
