Most girls with follicular cysts present with abdominal pain and will often report irregular menses as well [ 1 ]. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Infertility
Since most of these tumours are benign, surgical treatment should be conservative to minimise the risk of subsequent infertility. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Collapse
Pathophysiology [ edit ] This type can form when ovulation doesn't occur, and a follicle doesn't rupture or release its egg but instead grows until it becomes a cyst, or when a mature follicle involutes (collapses on itself). [en.wikipedia.org]

Ovarian Mass
Surgery for ovarian masses in infants, children, and adolescents: 102 consecutive patients treated in a 15-year period. J Pediatr Surg. 2001; 36 :693–99. [ PubMed ] [ Google Scholar ] [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
The aim of treatment are resolution of symptoms and preservation of ovarian tissue for future fertility. Follicular cysts in adolescents often regress without further treatment [ 4 ]. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Surgical treatment consisted of limited resection of the follicular cysts. Rapid regression of breast hypertrophy and return of estradiol levels to normal occurred in both children, who were followed for six and 1.5 years. [jamanetwork.com]
A doctor monitors these to make sure they disappear, and looks at treatment options if they do not. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] References [ edit ] External links [ edit ] [en.wikipedia.org]
