Heart Disease
People who are chronically depressed have higher rates of heart disease and stroke. A new study has linked it to dementia. Your first challenge is to persuade your husband that he can benefit from medical help. [chicago.suntimes.com]

Eruptions
Recently, a patient whom I had treated 20 years ago for proved allergic contact dermatitis was referred to me at the age of 73 years with a peculiar papular eruption and chronic lymphatic leukemia. [jamanetwork.com]
More severe eruptions usually clear up after treatment for one to three months with Accutane or tetracycline. [en.wikipedia.org]
The skin eruptions, which are often unbearably itchy, can last for weeks or months. In some cases, the disease spontaneously resolves within a year. For some individuals, however, it persists indefinitely. [chicago.suntimes.com]

Sweating
The cause is unknown, but there are many triggers, including cold air, heat and sweating, sunlight and medications. Your husband has the typical distribution of the rash, on the chest and back. It often is extremely itchy. [eu.detroitnews.com]
Treatment [ edit ] Sweating causes lesions to form, but lesions aggravated by sweat usually return to "normal" fairly quickly—avoiding sweat is not a reason to avoid exercise. [en.wikipedia.org]
Heat and sweat-inducing activities should be avoided. Retinoic acid may be helpful. Grover, Ralph W., U.S. dermatologist, 1920–. Grover disease - a pruritic papular eruption. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]

Treatment
The most recalcitrant cases may require systemic treatment with oral steroids, vitamin A analogs like isotretoin, or ultraviolet light treatment. [eu.detroitnews.com]
Early diagnosis and treatment can reduce distress and head off complications. Even with treatment, it can take weeks and even months for depression to loosen its grip. If your family can be supportive and understanding, it will be a big help. [chicago.suntimes.com]

Prevention
The patient complained of severe itching, but he said it was not severe enough to prevent sleep. He had had a knee replacement operation in 1977 before the onset of his disease for degenerative and rheumatoid arthritis. [jamanetwork.com]
