Prognosis

Prognosis: Most patients do very well. The relapse rate is 5%. Mortality is rare and usually owing to endocarditis. BIBLIOGRAPHY Colmenero J, Reguera JM, Fernandez-Nebro A, et al. Osteoarticular complications of brucellosis. [rheumaknowledgy.com]

Etiology

Therefore, its etiology is multifactorial, with each component having different impacts on different patients. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

The positive culture for brucellosis in both patients would make brucella the more likely etiological agent rather than dengue fever. An explanation for this phenomenon is the possible cross-reactivity between brucella and dengue fever virus. [saudijgastro.com]

Brucella spp. are very rarely implicated in the pathogenesis of this disease, but should be considered as the etiologic agent especially in elderly, debilitated patients. [emro.who.int]

No significant epidemiological or clinical correlations with liver involvement were exhibited. Thus, liver involvement was not increased in men vs women, young vs old patients, or complicated vs uncomplicated disease. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
