Psychiatrical
- Suggestibility
Neither patient had a past medical history suggestive of acute pericarditis, and the presumptive diagnosis was chronic calcific pericarditis secondary to histoplasmosis. [acpjournals.org]

It may resolve spontaneously or recur; occasionally, it leads to pericardial calcification.1,2 We describe a case of Histoplasma pericarditis in which the infecting organism was isolated from the pericardial fluid. [jamanetwork.com]
Only one patient had pericardial calcification, and none had constrictive pericarditis. This form of granulomatous pericarditis, unlike that caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, appears to carry a good prognosis. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Microbiology
- Complement Fixing Antibody
All patients demonstrated a fourfold or greater change in complement-fixing antibody titers. No patient had disseminated disease, and only one required treatment with ampholericin B. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
No patient had disseminated disease, and only one required treatment with ampholericin B. The illness ran a protracted course, and in six patients symptomatic pericarditis recurred. Ultimately all recovered. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
This form of granulomatous pericarditis, unlike that caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, appears to carry a good prognosis. Similar articles The radiological features of Histoplasma pericarditis. Kirchner SG, Heller RM, Sell SH, Altemeier WA 3rd. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
