Presentation
Poor visual acuity at first presentation, snowbanks and vitreoretinal traction were associated with a higher risk for poor BCVA at last presentation. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Facial Mass
Subsequent treatment with cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine, prednisone, and rituximab resulted in regressed facial mass and improved visual acuity. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
Laboratory workup has not revealed the inflammation etiology. [eyetube.net]
A detailed discussion of this case along with color photos, laboratory workup, a table of associated diseases, and a schematic for management of intermediate uveitis will be presented in this poster. [aaopt.org]
In all patients, an extensive workup based on clinical suspicion, showed a positive result from the first visit. [meajo.org]
Although most pediatric IU cases are idiopathic, a systemic workup is recommended to evaluate for underlying disorders (see “Possible Etiologies”). [aao.org]
Microbiology
-
Toxocara Canis
Furthermore, IU has been associated with a number of infectious agents including Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme disease), Toxocara canis (toxocariasis), syphilis,52 tuberculosis,53 Whipple bacilli (Whipple disease), Epstein-Barr virus, human T-cell lymphotrophic [journals.lww.com]
HLA Type
-
HLA-DR2
• Sarcoidosis – CT scan lungs, ACE enzymes • Serologic testing for- cat-scratch disease, syphilis (VDRL, FTA-ABS)and Lyme's • HLA DR2 typing • Vitreous tap 28. [slideshare.net]
HLA-DR2 and HLA-DR15, -DR51 and -DQ6 were closely associated with both pars planitis and MS. [eyewiki.aao.org]
-
HLA-B5
One patient who was positive for HLA B5 and HLA B51 with history of recurrent oral ulcers and a positive pathergy test was diagnosed as a Bechets disease. [meajo.org]
Treatment
In case of treatment failure, switching to the other treatment arm was possible. RESULTS: Nineteen patients were included. Ten were randomized to MTX, and 9 were randomized to IFN beta. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Visual prognosis was good and it was not age-related. Childhood onset was more frequent in boys, adult onset in women. Endocrinal factors could be involved. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology
Etiology of IU was idiopathic in 59%. Multiple sclerosis (MS) (20%) and sarcoidosis (10%) were frequent systemic causes of IU. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Laboratory workup has not revealed the inflammation etiology. [eyetube.net]

Pathophysiology
It is evident that genetics plays some role in the pathophysiology of intermediate uveitis, but the importance remains unclear. [en.wikipedia.org]
Given the functionality of the investigated polymorphism, new pathophysiological insights are gained that help to evaluate possible therapeutic targets. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Pathophysiology There may be an immunogenetic predisposition for the disorder in some cases (see Causes), accounting for family clustering that is seen on occasion, indicating environmental or hereditary associations. [emedicine.medscape.com]
Pathophysiology IU seems to be a T-cell mediated disease, as these cells account for up to 95% of all cell types in the vitreous of patients with IU; most of these cells are CD4 . [eyewiki.aao.org]
Prevention
An increase awareness of its efficacy is required among paediatricians and ophthalmologists to prevent sight threatening complication of chronic uveitis and its treatment with long term use of steroids. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
