Presentation

Among the reactive conditions, Kimura disease was considered because of the clinical presentation of a tumorlike swelling in the submandibular subcutaneous area with typical lymphadenopathy. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]

We report a case of Kimura disease from western Asia, presenting itself as nephrotic syndrome, and this case was seen at a nontransplant kidney presenting with focal segmental glomerulonephritis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Subcutaneous Nodule

The diagnosis of Kimura disease should be strongly considered in any patient of Asian descent who presents with painless subcutaneous nodules predominantly involving the head and neck region in association with marked eosinophilia and elevated immunoglobulin [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

These lesions were tangible as subcutaneous nodules by careful palpation. Although the patient initially noticed the nodules in his thirties, they gradually increased in size and number a few months ago. [circ.ahajournals.org]

  • Pruritus

Cetirizine's properties of being effective both in the treatment of pruritus (itching) and as an anti-inflammatory agent make it suitable for the treatment of the pruritus associated with these lesions.[6] In a 2005 study, the American College of Rheumatology [en.wikipedia.org]

Psychiatrical

  • Suggestibility

Any parotid mass found in a patient of Far-Eastern origin showing hypereosinophilia should suggest a diagnosis of intraparotid Kimura disease. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Neurologic

  • Agitation

Their music "is full of bluster and agitation that nonetheless retains moments of great melodic beauty, usually by way of concise, pertly pretty motifs that trumpeter Tamura plays in between bursts of withering roars that often dissolve into austere overtones [squidco.com]

Workup

Hence, a thorough workup for the severity and extent of the disease and optimal planning is essential for the successful management of these cases. [ijhas.in]

Pre-excision workup showed blood eosinophilia of >52% with total leukocyte count (TLC) being increased (14 × 10 9 /L). [imjsu.org]

Microbiology

  • Candida

= Fungi: Fungal keratitis is caused by Aspergillus, Candida, or Fusarium. As with bacterial keratitis, fungal keratitis is most likely to affect those who wear contact lenses. [healthline.com]

Candida has also been hypothesized as a source of antigemia, but no direct evidence exists in terms of presence of hyphae or spores [2], [3]. [ejo.eg.net]

Among them, current theories on causation are trauma, autoimmune reactions, and allergic reaction to parasites, virus (Epstein-Barr virus and human herpes virus 8), fungus ( Candida albicans ), or toxin. [imjsu.org]

Persistent antigenic stimulus by arthropod bites, parasites, or candida infection have been put forward in some of the reported cases. [surgeryijss.com]

Treatment

We could not see any evidence of relapsing and decided that proper surgical resection of the lesion can be a treatment for KD. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Cetirizine's properties of being effective both in the treatment of pruritus (itching) and as an anti-inflammatory agent make it suitable for the treatment of the pruritus associated with these lesions.[6] In a 2005 study, the American College of Rheumatology [en.wikipedia.org]

Prognosis

The disease has an excellent prognosis, although it may recur locally. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Prognosis ALHE is clinically benign but persistent and treatment is refractory. Kimura, Tetsuji, 20th century Japanese pathologist. Kimura disease - solitary or multiple small benign cutaneous erythematous nodules. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]

(Outcomes/Resolutions) The prognosis for Kimura Disease is good with proper treatment. [dovemed.com]

Etiology

Kimura disease is an uncommon chronic, benign, inflammatory condition of unknown etiology. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]

Abstract Kimura disease is a benign rare chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology that involves the lymph nodes and subcutaneous tissue of the head and neck regions. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Epidemiology

We review the epidemiology, the aetiology and clinical features of this entity. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Epidemiology Males > females. Young. Asian. Microscopic Features: [2] Angiolymphoid proliferation. Thick walled blood vessels with (plump) hobnail endothelial cells. [3] Eosinophils - abundant - key feature. DDx: Drug reaction. Parasitic infection. [librepathology.org]

EN This article describes Kimura’s disease as a rare case of lymphadenitis and reviews its epidemiology, clinical aspects, diagnosis and treatment methods. The role of surgical procedures was also underlined. [psjd.icm.edu.pl]

KIMURA DISEASE AND ANGIOLYMPHOID HYPERPLASIA WITH EOSINOPHILIA Epidemiology The skin lesions of Kimura disease and angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (AHLE) most commonly affect young to middle-aged adults. [dermaamin.com]

Pathophysiology

Although the underlying pathophysiology is not clear yet, the diagnosis can be established based on specific histopathological characteristics. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

To date, none of these theories has been substantiated.[1] Pathophysiology[edit] The pathophysiology of Kimura's disease remains unknown, although an allergic reaction, trauma, and an autoimmune process have all been implicated as possible causes. [en.wikipedia.org]

Prevention

The control of hypereosinophilia may contribute to the prevention of thrombosis and its recurrence in patients with Kimura disease. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

There is no known prevention for Kimura Disease, as the cause is not fully-understood. [dovemed.com]

Preventing viral outbreaks Some forms of viral keratitis can't be completely eliminated. [mayoclinic.org]
