Presentation
CASE PRESENTATION: A 38-year-old Thai woman with systemic lupus erythematosus and myasthenia gravis treated with prednisolone and azathioprine presented to our hospital with low-grade fever, diarrhea, and indurated skin lesions on both thighs. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Entire Body System
- Low Fever
The symptoms of Legionnaire’s disease range from a mild cough and low fever to rapidly progressive pneumonia, coma, and death. [microbewiki.kenyon.edu]
Musculoskeletal
- Arthritis
We report the first case, to our knowledge, of acute purulent arthritis due to Legionella pneumophila in an immunosuppressed patient. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Skin
- Ulcer
A chronic leg ulcer was probably the port of entry for the infection. Treatment required several operations and prolonged antimicrobial treatment. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Skin Lesion
Treatment comprised intravenous azithromycin for 3 weeks and the skin lesions, myositis and myocarditis resolved. Oral azithromycin and ciprofloxacin were continued for 3 months to ensure eradication of the organism. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Indurated Skin Lesion
CASE PRESENTATION: A 38-year-old Thai woman with systemic lupus erythematosus and myasthenia gravis treated with prednisolone and azathioprine presented to our hospital with low-grade fever, diarrhea, and indurated skin lesions on both thighs. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
She was initially transferred to this institution for definitive workup of presumed B cell lymphoma and, during her hospital course, suffered a relapse of L. pneumophila-associated cellulitis that responded promptly to azithromycin. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Colonoscopy
- Colitis
The first case had been treated initially with 60 mg prednisolone for ulcerative colitis, and L. pneumophila serogroup 1 was isolated from sputum samples after cavitation of the lung lesion. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
To evaluate the effectiveness of different disinfection treatments in a spa water system contaminated by Legionella pneumophila and associated with a case of Legionella pneumonia. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Treatment with antibiotics usually cures Legionella infection; however, if the resultant disease is not timely recognized and treated properly, it leads to poor prognosis and high case fatality rate. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
[…] most common 3 ) and/or ground glass opacities 2 ; pure ground glass changes can also uncommonly occur those with extensively consolidated lesions can have associated cavitation 3 can have a subpleural or peribronchovascular pattern 2,8 Treatment and prognosis [radiopaedia.org]
Etiology
Abstract The use of urinary antigen tests (UATs) may provide early etiology in pneumonia, and facilitates rapid and directed antibiotic treatment. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Epidemiology
Results : Epidemiologically unrelated ST345 isolates were clearly distinguishable from the epidemic clone. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Pathophysiology
We discuss the possible mechanisms of L. pneumophila associated acute pancreatitis for which the pathophysiology is still undetermined: infection, toxin release or cytokine secretion. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
[…] clinical disorders or settings where the test may be helpful Evaluation of possible legionellosis (Legionnaires disease, Pontiac fever, extrapulmonary legionella infection caused by Legionella pneumophila ) Clinical Information Discusses physiology, pathophysiology [mayomedicallaboratories.com]
Prevention
The Dot/Icm secretion system was necessary for L. pneumophila to prevent the eukaryotic proliferation. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Health departments and public agencies have issued infection prevention guidelines aimed at preventing outbreaks in facilities in which Legionnaires' disease has been overlooked. [text.apic.org]
