Presentation
Abstract The present study compares the risk factors, presentation and outcome of community-acquired Legionella pneumophila pneumonia in 138 sporadic-case patients (1994-2004) and 113 outbreak-case patients (2002) treated in two hospitals in Catalonia [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Fatigue
Clinical description LD has an incubation period of 2-10 days with fatigue and weakness often being the first signs of the disease. It manifests as pneumonia characterized by fever, cough, sputum production and shortness of breath. [orpha.net]

A study of outbreak survivors showed persistence of fatigue (75%), neurologic symptoms (66%) and neuromuscular symptoms (63%) in months after an outbreak. See Share Your Story for a first-hand account of the severity of this disease. [legionella.org]
Symptoms usually occur 2 to 10 days after coming in contact with Legionella and may include: High fever Chills Dry cough Shortness of breath Muscle aches Diarrhea Fatigue Headache Abdominal pain Legionnaires’ disease is treated with antibiotics The health [phpa.health.maryland.gov]

Ulcer
A 77-year-old woman with gastric ulcer was presented to our hospital. She had an acute onset of high fever. A chest X-ray film on admission was normal, but transient bilateral pleural effusions were revealed on hospital day 7. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Distractibility
A further issue is that people with legionellosis can present with a wide range of symptoms, some of which (such as diarrhea) may distract clinicians from making a correct diagnosis. [en.wikipedia.org]

Other studied outcomes were not significantly different among treatment groups. CONCLUSIONS: Few clinical data on legionellosis treatment are available. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Management and treatment Treatment involves antibiotics (usually macrolides and quinolones). Hospitalization is often required. Ventilatory support may be necessary in those with serious breathing difficulties. [orpha.net]
Prognosis
Patient UK: Legionella and Legionnaires' Disease Provides information on this serious pulmonary infection, including its pathophysiology, epidemiology, presentation, differential diagnosis, investigation, management, prognosis and prevention. [curlie.org]
Prognosis In most cases, LD is treated and cured with antibiotics but in those with compromised immune systems or underlying health conditions the prognosis can be poor. The overall case fatality rate is around 10-15%. [orpha.net]
Both had serologic confirmation of legionellosis by indirect fluorescent antibody assay for Legionella pneumophila without seroconversion for Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Chlamydia pneumoniae, and had a good prognosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology
The most common etiologic agents were Legionella pneumophila (58.5%) and Legionella feeleii (39.4%), the latter being responsible for only one large outbreak of PF. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology LD is caused by Legionella pneumophila (most commonly serogroup 1), a bacteria found in water and wet soil. [orpha.net]

Epidemiology
Furthermore, a different range of Legionella species is responsible for illness, suggesting a distinctive legionellosis epidemiology in this North American region. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
