Presentation
They present most commonly as a testicular mass or with endocrine symptoms. We report three new cases of Leydig cell tumors that presented in different forms. The relevant literature is reviewed and the management of these tumors is discussed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
LCTs can either be benign or malignant with clinical presentation varying from testicular mass associated with endocrinal manifestations to metastatic lesions in case of malignant tumors. [sciedu.ca]
Foci of calcification and hyalinization were present. The adjacent testis showed normal spermatogenesis. This patient was doing well at 3-years' follow-up with no evidence of metastasis. [indianjurol.com]
Entire Body System
- Virilization
LCTs of the testis are frequently hormonally active, leading to either feminizing or virilizing syndromes. The tumor is usually benign, but malignant variants can occur. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Virilization (including precocious puberty) may occur. Hyperestrogenism may also occur and patients may demonstrate gynaecomastia. Malignancy cannot be excluded on imaging. [radiopaedia.org]
Virilization is often seen in children, and gynecomastia may be present in 30% of adults. Because of the rarity of these tumors, minimal endocrine data are available on these patients. [health.am]
ORPHA:99916 Synonym(s): Androblastoma Arrhenoblastoma Ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell cancer Ovarian malignant Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor Virilizing ovarian tumor Prevalence: - Inheritance: - Age of onset: Adult, Elderly, Childhood, Adolescent ICD-10: C56 [orpha.net]
- Asymptomatic
Men between 30 and 60 years are asymptomatic or may present with loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, impotence, and infertility. [indianjcancer.com]
Adults are usually asymptomatic, although gynecomastia may be present in 20-25%. Ten percent of tumors in adults are malignant. Laboratory findings include elevated serum and urinary 17-ketosteroids as well as estrogens. [health.am]
If it is secreting androgens the tumour is usually asymptomatic, but can cause precocious puberty in pre-pubertal boys. If the tumour secretes oestrogens it can cause feminisation in young boys. [en.wikipedia.org]
Men usually present with either an asymptomatic mass or with endocrine abnormalities such as gynecomastia (20-40%) or loss of libido. [ijpmonline.org]
Men usually present with either an asymptomatic mass or with endocrine abnormalities such as gynaecomastia (20-40%) or loss of libido. Azoospermia is not usually reported as a symptom of this tumor. [hormones.gr]

- Testicular Mass
Abstract Leydig cell tumors of the testis are rare, mostly presenting as a testicular mass or as endocrinological symptoms. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Gross examination revealed a testicular mass measuring 9.5 cm × 7 cm × 6 cm. Cut surface was brownish with areas of hemorrhage, necrosis, and calcification [Figure 1] a. [indianjcancer.com]
Most patients (93%) had a testicular mass. [mayoclinic.pure.elsevier.com]

Treatment
Unfortunately, the patient could not be cured with this effective treatment. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment Surgical treatment of the testicular tumor Inguinal (radical) orchiectomy is often the initial treatment for larger tumors. [urology-textbook.com]
As Leydig cell tumors are rare, these treatments have not been studied as much as treatments for other, more common testicular cancers. [medlineplus.gov]
Prognosis
Typically, in a vast majority of cases, the prognosis is excellent, since it is usually a benign tumor In rare case of a malignancy, the prognosis may depend upon several factors including the stage of the tumor and health status of the individual Generally [dovemed.com]

The overall prognosis of testicular tumors is excellent; patients can often be cured even in advanced, metastatic stages. [amboss.com]
Etiology
It is recommended that all endocrine, nutritional, neoplastic, chromosomal, and drug etiologies of gynecomastia be investigated before surgical resection of the enlarged breasts. [popline.org]
(Etiology) The cause of Leydig Cell Tumor of the Testis is unknown. [dovemed.com]
Etiology Risk factors Cryptorchidism (increased risk for germ cell tumors ) [4] Contralateral testicular cancer Germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNIS) Family history of testicular cancer Klinefelter syndrome, Down syndrome (increased risk for germ cell tumors [amboss.com]

The etiology of Leydig cell tumors remains unknown. Unlike germ cell testicular tumors, Leydig cell neoplasms are not associated with cryptorchidism. It is thought that an endocrine role may contribute to the development of these tumors. [emedicine.medscape.com]
Epidemiology
Leydig Cell Tumors Epidemiology & Pathology Leydig cell tumors are the most common non-germ cell tumors of the testis and account for 1-3% of all testicular tumors. [health.am]
