Presentation
We present 3 cases of Listeria monocytogenes presenting as focal infections to our hospitals, all of which are the first reported cases from Australia. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Entire Body System
-
Anorexia
We describe a case of Listeria pericarditis, which occurred in a 60-year-old man with Child-Pugh B cirrhosis who presented to the emergency department with asthenia, anorexia, and respiratory distress. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome
We report a case of neonatal listeriosis with erythematous rash, intractable convulsions, severe early neonatal sepsis, disseminated intravascular coagulation, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and death. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Respiratoric
-
Sighing
Deletion or constitutive overexpression of TrxA, which was regulated by SigH, severely attenuated the virulence of the pathogen. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Musculoskeletal
-
Costovertebral Angle Tenderness
She was admitted to our hospital complaining of fever and chills, and her physical examination revealed left costovertebral angle tenderness. Computed tomography showed hydronephrosis and complete ureteral obstruction due to tumor invasion. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Hip Pain
Two months after that operation, the patient presented with fever, severe left hip pain, inability to bear weight, and painful restriction of left hip motion; the incision site was tender and erythematous. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
X-Ray
-
Pericardial Effusion
The echocardiogram showed severe pericardial effusion and after pericardiocentesis, L. monocytogenes was isolated in the culture of pericardial fluid. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Microbiology

Treatment
The initial treatment with vancomycin and meropenem did not produce any clinical effect. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Documentation of L. monocytogenes pericarditis is an extremely rare entity with very scarce reports in medical literature, and is usually associated with a very poor prognosis. A case report is presented together with a review of the literature. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology
Aspergillus is by far the most frequent etiology of post-transplant brain abscesses. Bacteria, apart from Nocardia, have a low association with brain abscesses in transplant recipients. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
In Argentina, listeriosis is not a national notifiable disease but physicians should always consider L. monocytogenes as a possible etiologic agent of neonatal meningitis. [scielo.org.ar]

Epidemiology
Specific food linkages were only made epidemiologically in this cluster. CDC has established an epidemiological link between consumption of raw hot dogs or undercooked chicken and approximately 20% of the sporadic cases under prospective study. [web.archive.org]
Epidemiological and laboratory evidence indicated poor hand hygiene, unhygienic practices and cross-contamination throughout the manufacturing process of ready-to-eat foods as a possible cause of the outbreak. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
