Presentation
It typically presents as a solitary black nodule that has been present for nearly 6 years and has increased to a diameter of 2 or more centimeters. It is most commonly located on either the head and neck or the trunk. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
The lesions progressively became raised, verrucous and deeply pigmented and continued to enlarge gradually until her presentation. She did not report any discomfort or itching associated with the lesions. [ijdvl.com]
He had been suffering from tuberculosis of chest in the past and presently from bronchial asthma and mild depression. On systemic examination no relevant abnormality was found. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Here, we report the first case of cutaneous melanoacanthoma presenting with an ulcerated plaque and the third case of cutaneous melanoacanthoma with multiple lesions. [bioline.org.br]

- Keratosis
Melanoacanthoma is a variant of seborrheic keratosis so the distinction is not critical Some might sign out melanoacanthoma as seborrheic keratosis, or might use melanoacanthoma with the additional descriptor of 'benign variant of seborrheic keratosis [pathologyoutlines.com]

The pathogenesis of a melanoacanthoma remains to be established; many researchers consider it to be a variant of seborrheic keratosis. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Treatment
Literature on melanoacanthoma usually refers to its origin, clinical features and histopathological characteristics with paucity of literature on the treatment options. There is no effective medical treatment available for cutaneous melanoacanthoma. [ijdvl.com]
Conservative excision of melanoacanthoma is the treatment of choice since incomplete removal of the tumor can result in persistence and continued growth or recurrence of the lesion. [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Etiology
Possible etiologic factors in the development of a melanoacanthoma include secondary colonization of melanocytes, irritation-induced maturation of basal cells into squamous cells that block melanin transfer from the melanocytes into the keratinocytes, [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
