We used the vigilance promoting drug modafinil to prevent such attacks in a case presented with endozepine stupor. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Entire Body System

Modafinil (Provigil) is a wake-promoting drug approved for patients with narcolepsy or other causes of excessive daytime sleepiness. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hypersomnia

No study has up to now investigated the effect of modafinil (a reference drug to treat EDS in patients with hypersomnia) on on-road driving performance of patients suffering from central hypersomnia. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Abstract Atypical depression, with features of hypersomnia, hyperphagia, anergia, and rejection sensitivity, is a common presentation of major depressive disorder. There are few available effective therapies for this disorder. [oadoi.org]

  • Military Personnel

Here, we review and summarize recent findings of the medical uses of MOD in the management of sleepiness and fatigue associated with depression or cancer as well as exhaustion in military personnel. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Recommendations are also provided on the need for appropriate labeling of caffeine-containing supplements, and education of military personnel on the use of these supplements. A brief review of some alternatives to caffeine is also provided. [books.google.es]

"One is always looking for something that would give military personnel an extra edge," she told the committee which is investigating the use of such drugs in sport. [news.bbc.co.uk]

In its off-label use as a smart drug, it is a well-known “stay awake” solution used to fight fatigue by E.R. doctors, study-obsessed college students, and military personnel. [smartdrugsmarts.com]

  • Movement Disorder

A 76-year-old man with movement disorder had a I-FP-CIT (DaTSCAN) SPECT exam demonstrating universally decreased striatal uptake. It was later determined that he had taken modafinil, and the scintigraphy was interpreted as false positive. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Psychiatrical

  • Fear

There was also a reduction in combat fatigue that developed from extended hours of military duty, anxiety, and fear. The effect of modafinil on wakefulness is further emphasized in a study combining the drug with other psychostimulants. [smartdrugsforthought.com]

“Such unsubstantiated claims could cause real and unnecessary alarm to students and parents and, perversely, could serve to inspire students to obtain such drugs illegally for fear of being at a competitive disadvantage." [telegraph.co.uk]

Timothy Ferriss, author of the best-selling The 4-Hour Work Week, recently dished about its effects with modafinil fan Joe Rogan, the former host of Fear Factor, on Rogan’s popular podcast. [nymag.com]

The drug resolved both the inattention/hyperactivity symptoms as well as the amphetamine abuse. Modafinil may be a suitable candidate treatment for adults with ADHD and stimulant abuse. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Agitation

We describe 2 cases in which administration of modafinil exacerbated agitation and hallucinations in DLB, and we also review data that may explain the mechanisms underlying this effect. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

To October 2008, we have received 339 adverse reaction reports with varenicline, 255 (72%) of which describe psychiatric symptoms including depression, aggression, agitation, abnormal dreams, insomnia, hallucination and anger. [tga.gov.au]

We have also received 15 reports of seizures in patients using varenicline. It is not known how many of these had a prior history or risk of a seizure disorder and there is no experience from clinical trials of varenicline in patients with epilepsy. [tga.gov.au]

  • Difficulty Concentrating

Symptoms such as difficulty concentrating or indecisiveness contribute to the disability associated with depression. Almost all patients with depression experience problems with concentration, memory, and attention. [cam.ac.uk]

Treatment

Prognosis

We did not include studies comparing different types of cancer‐modifying treatment and the effect on prognosis and quality of life. We also excluded those studies which did not focus on pharmacological treatment. [doi.org]

Etiology

Deficits in the dopamine receptor system are involved in the etiology of apathy; modafinil's increased dopaminergic transmission is thought to help alleviate apathy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Thus, despite numerous investigations, the etiology of SLE-associated cognitive dysfunction remains unclear. There is no known means for preventing cognitive dysfunction in SLE. [clinicaltrials.gov]

The cause is known and etiologically homogenous, and typically lifelong treatment will be needed, with the goal of optimizing life for these patients according to their goals. [doi.org]
