Presentation
We report the first ever case of a neurenteric cyst presenting with stridor and dysphagia. A literature review on the presentation and management of these lesions is also included. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Spontaneous Hemorrhage
CASE REPORT: A case of spontaneous hemorrhage into an intradural extramedullary neurenteric cyst at the C4-C6 level in a 6-year-old boy is reported. The child presented with sudden neck pain, torticollis, and myelopathy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Inguinal Pain
Abstract A 56-year-old man presented with a very rare true neurenteric cyst in the conus medullaris without evidence of vertebral or visceral anomaly manifesting as a 6-month history of mild low back and bilateral inguinal pain. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Limb Pain
A 31-year-old man presented with low back and bilateral limb pain of three-year duration. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Anorexia
One and one-half years later, he presented with headache and anorexia. A massive recurrent tumor was identified on MR images. The tumor was severely adhesive to the brainstem, cranial nerves, and vessels, allowing only partial resection. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Respiratoric
-
Sneezing
We report an 11-month-old infant presenting with a soft, fluctuant and transilluminant swelling posterior to the anus since birth; the size of the swelling varied with alterations in intraspinal pressure subsequent to crying, coughing, or sneezing. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Ears
-
Tinnitus
METHODS: A 32-year-old woman presented with chronic headaches and worsening nausea, tinnitus, dizziness, and hyperreflexia and clonus in her lower extremities. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Four of 17 patients had cranial nerve deficits (23.5%), including decreased gag reflex, decreased sensation in the distribution of V1 and V2, tinnitus, vertigo, and sensorineural hearing loss. [ajnr.org]
Musculoskeletal
-
Torticollis
The child presented with sudden neck pain, torticollis, and myelopathy. The cyst was of high signal intensity on both T1- and T2-weighted magnetic resonance images, suggesting hemorrhage into the cyst. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
General and neurological examination revealed no significant findings except torticollis to left, sluggish tendon reflexes. [ijri.org]
-
Right Shoulder Pain
A 53-year-old man presented with right shoulder pain and finger dysesthesia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a ventrolaterally situated mass strongly compressing the cervicothoracic spinal cord. [jstage.jst.go.jp]
Urogenital
-
Urinary Retention
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old woman presented with a 2-year history of progressive paraparesis and urinary retention. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
He showed tetraplegia and urinary retention a few hours after the hospitalization to our department. Sensory findings revealed complete loss without vibration sensation in his feet. [omicsonline.org]
Neurologic
-
Myelopathy
They are usually located at the cervicothoracic junction and present with progressive mild to moderate signs of myelopathy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
They usually present insidiously with local spinal pain, radiculopathy, and myelopathy. We report the case of an 8-year-old boy with a high cervical neurenteric cyst who developed a progressive myelopathy after a minor neck trauma. [omicsonline.org]
-
Dysesthesia
He had also suffered dysesthesia in the bilateral feet for several weeks before admission. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Limb Weakness
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 2-month-old infant presented with an insidious onset of upper limb weakness. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Neurological examination revealed left upper limb weakness (power 4 /5, Medical Research Council grading). Rest of the examination was normal. [pediatricneurosciences.com]
-
Cerebellar Ataxia
Here we present a 17-year-old male who presented with acute onset headache and cerebellar ataxia. He was found to have a hyperdense lesion of the cerebellar vermis on CT scan. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Patient also had cerebellar ataxia on left side. [mjdrdypu.org]
-
Clonus
METHODS: A 32-year-old woman presented with chronic headaches and worsening nausea, tinnitus, dizziness, and hyperreflexia and clonus in her lower extremities. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
This case is unique because an intraspinal cyst was not suspected clinically until large numbers of squamous epithelial cells were obtained at lumbar puncture performed as part of a workup for a septic entity. [utexas.influuent.utsystem.edu]
Metastatic workup at the time of presentation was unremarkable, and immediately up until being lost to follow-up 38 months after gross total resection, routine follow-up MR imaging had not detected a recurrence. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Microbiology
-
Staphylococcus Aureus
The cystic fluid, which was sent for culture, grew coagulase-negative Staphylococcus aureus. This is the first documented case of rapid neurological deterioration due to infection in a neurenteric cyst. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice, with good prognosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice, with good prognosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Cyst size does not appear to correlate with prognosis. May displace the lungs, heart airways and great vessels. Pulmonary hypoplasia may occur if the mass or displacement is great. [fetalultrasound.com]
Treatment and prognosis Arachnoid cysts are benign, and the vast majority remain asymptomatic throughout life. If they are deemed to be causing symptoms, then surgery can be contemplated. [radiopaedia.org]
Prognosis generally appears better when the patients do have those below : no abrupt clinical course, no severe neurological deficit before diagnosis, no atrophic change of spinal cord on MRI, and when total removal of the cyst is achieved (58.6% complete [jkns.or.kr]
Etiology
We discuss potential etiologies for the formation of such cysts. The clinician should consider neurenteric cysts in their differential diagnosis of patients with spinal dysraphism and/or intraspinal masses. Copyright 2006 Wiley-Liss, Inc. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Teaching points • Neurenteric cysts are rare with about 0.3 to 0.5% of spinal cord tumours • Also refd to as enteric/enterogenous/gastrocytoma/teratomatous cysts • Etiology is controversial • One theory suggests normally interposed notochordal plate [sumerdoc.blogspot.com]
In this book, each chapter is richly illustrated and dedicated to one disease with subheadings that encompass etiology, molecular biology, clinical anatomy, symptoms, rationale for surgical procedures, natural history and transition into adulthood. [books.google.com]
Epidemiology
The anomalies are organized by anatomical system and presented in a consistent manner, including details of the clinical presentation, epidemiology, embryology, treatment and prevention for each anomaly. [books.google.ro]
Pathophysiology
A brief review of the pertinent literature is presented, and the possible pathophysiology of such a presentation is also discussed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

It also casts doubt on an acute mechanical compression at the time of injury as being the pathophysiologic mechanism. Instead, the delayed and progressive neurological deterioration suggests a more dynamic process. [omicsonline.org]
Prevention
If the diagnosis is made in an early stage, unnecessary progressive destruction of surrounding structures may be prevented. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

The adhesion that prevents separation may be caused by an inadequate nutrient supply of the neural folds. There is a high association of concomitant vertebral anomalies, which determine the prognosis. [fetalultrasound.com]
In addition, communication with the notochord would prevent normal anterior formation of the vertebral column. [thoracickey.com]
