Surgical debulking is indicated for patients with severely progressive and disabling clinical course (e.g., orbital apex syndrome with optic nerve compression) or when the lesion is focal and easily approachable (4). [scielo.br]
- Euthyroid
This report describes a patient with exophthalmos, who was initially diagnosed with euthyroid Graves' with good response to therapy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
The ophtalmopathy may precede (euthyroid Graves' disease), follow or occur simultaneously with hyperthyroidism (1,2). [scielo.br]
The patients in this subgroup were first described in 1941, 3, 4 and the disorder was termed euthyroid ophthalmopathy. [jamanetwork.com]
TSI is a useful test for diagnosing TAO in euthyroid patients, and has been shown to correlate with disease activity (4). Any additional workup (e.g. [webeye.ophth.uiowa.edu]
- Ecchymosis
A 75-year-old male suffered sudden onset of retroorbital pain, visual loss, periorbital ecchymosis, and double vision without preceding trauma, paranasal sinus surgery, or infectious signs. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Introduction The purpose of this article is to report a case of a nineyear-old girl who presented with right periorbital swelling, ecchymosis, and proptosis. [healio.com]
During clinical investigation the proptosis, periorbital swelling, and ecchymosis worsened (Figure 3). [scielo.br]
- Goiter
Clinical examination showed proptosis in the right eye, associated with mild swelling, redness, and normal eye movements; no pain, diplopia or goiter. [scielo.br]
- Intravenous Administration
administration of Gadobutrol (Bayer HealthCare, 0.1 mmol/Kg). [bmcneurol.biomedcentral.com]
Musculoskeletal
- Arthritis
Our working diagnosis was systemic-onset juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, although pseudotumor of the orbit and lytic bone lesions are not found in this disease. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Adalimumab has been proven to be effective in adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis. [66] [67] [68] [69] The results of etanercept for eye related diseases have been mixed. [eyewiki.aao.org]
In brief: Red,painful, swollen Orbital myositis (OM) falls in the spectrum of orbital inflammatory diseases, which are associated w/ autoimmune dz like rhuematoid arthritis, lupus, crohn's dz etc. [healthtap.com]

Eyes
- Chemosis
The clinical features were proptosis (79.6%), ocular motor deficit (61.2%), pain (51%), lid swelling or lid mass (44.9%), ptosis (24.5%), and chemosis (18.4%). The most common presenting sign was proptosis (49%). [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Examination showed 8 mm of proptosis of that eye with 3+ conjunctival injection and chemosis. The vision was measured at 20/70 OD and 20/25 OS. The left eye appeared normal on clinical examination. [link.springer.com]
- Conjunctival Injection
A 55-year-old female presents to the emergency department with 2 days of worsening right eye pain and conjunctival injection, now with proptosis (Figure 1). [emra.org]
Examination showed 8 mm of proptosis of that eye with 3+ conjunctival injection and chemosis. The vision was measured at 20/70 OD and 20/25 OS. The left eye appeared normal on clinical examination. [link.springer.com]
These patients present acute or chronic with orbital pain exacerbated by eye movements and associated with diplopia, proptosis, ptosis, conjunctival injection and periorbital edema. [healio.com]

- Periorbital Edema
Her findings initially were ocular pain and photophobia which progressed to periorbital edema and nasal discharge ultimately resulting in proptosis with vertical globe displacement and decreased visual acuity. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Presenting signs & symptoms included pain, periorbital edema, proptosis, globe dystopia, restricted ocular movement with diplopia, & decreased vision. 2 patients had concurrent disease in the orbit & maxillary sinus (Fig 1), while 1 patient had extension [iovs.arvojournals.org]
In 2008, while CD was in remission, she presented with severe right periorbital pain, worsening with eye movement; vertical diplopia with supraversion and infraversion impairment, no change in visual acuity, right periorbital edema, lid ptosis and exophthalmia [academic.oup.com]
- Unilateral Proptosis
Both unilateral proptosis (2 cases) and radiological evidence of orbital inflammatory pseudotumor in the absence of exophthalmos (1 case) have been separately described as presenting signs of temporal arteritis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
We describe two patients with unilateral proptosis, diplopia, palpable orbital masses, ocular discomfort, and sinus problems of short duration. Echographically, both had low reflective masses in the orbit and the adjacent sinuses. [jamanetwork.com]
A 43 year-old male presented with a complaint of unilateral proptosis in the right eye that had developed a year ago [Figure 1]. There were no associated ocular or systemic symptoms. [jcytol.org]
In general, the diagnosis of orbital pseudotumor should be entertained in any patient presenting with acute onset unilateral proptosis. References Welsh L, Aaronson E, Eicken J, Geyer B, eds. [emra.org]
- Blepharoptosis
Three male and three female patients, aged 27 to 74 years, presented with a variety of ophthalmologic problems, including orbital swelling, chemosis, proptosis, blepharoptosis, restricted eye motion, diplopia, and visual loss. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
The inflammatory process subsided without further treatment, but the eye remained sightless, blepharoptosis was complete, there was very little ocular motility, and optic atrophy developed. [entokey.com]
Psychiatrical
- Suggestibility
Allergy tests revealed a hypersensitivity to hyaluronidase, suggesting an immunoallergic etiology of the pseudotumor, which needed to be differentiated from other causes of proptosis after retrobulbar injection. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
This case report demonstrates the use of Ga-67 citrate imaging in the early diagnostic workup of this disorder. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup includes a search for underlying cause. First line treatment is w/ oral steroids. [healthtap.com]
The volume explores the impact of diagnostic workup, the role of surgery, the role of external beam radiation therapy, the use of radioactive plaques, photocoagulation, cryotherapy, and other less major surgical procedures. [books.google.it]
Treatment
Treatment with steroids is usually successful early on, but long-term treatment-failure and recurrence rates are high. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
As a result its use should probably be limited to those who have failed virtually all other available treatments. [90] Surgical Therapy Surgical resection can be an effective form of treatment in NSOI refractory to treatment. [eyewiki.aao.org]
Prognosis
Inflammatory orbital pseudotumor has a good prognosis with steroid therapy. Once it is suspected, prompt and effective treatment must be given as soon as possible, even before laboratory work-up has been completed. 3. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology
Idiopathic orbital inflammation (IOI), also known as orbital pseudotumor, is a nonspecific orbital inflammation of unknown etiology. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Idiopathic orbital inflammation, also known as orbital inflammatory pseudotumor has no known etiology and pathogenesis at the moment. Infection and immune-associated etiologies may play important roles [ 5, 8 ]. [omicsonline.org]
Epidemiology

Pathophysiology
The pathophysiology of this entity was investigated using magnetic resonant imaging (MRI) and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM). Clinical features, anterior chamber angle configuration, and intraocular pressure. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Diagnosis may be confirmed with a biopsy referred to as an orbitotomy. 2 However, if suspicion is high enough, response to corticosteroids can also be used to confirm a diagnosis without the need for biopsy. 2 Pathophysiology Although the pathophysiology [emra.org]
