Presentation
While intra-abdominal cysts found on prenatal imaging are not uncommon, we examine a case of pancreatic heterotopia presenting in an abdominopelvic cyst on prenatal imaging. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
In summary, we present the cytologic findings obtained by EUS-FNA of a patient with heterotopic pancreas seated deeply as a solid mass in the gastric wall. [saudijgastro.com]
CASE REPORT The following index cases depict two unusual presentations of pancreatic heterotopia. [pancreas.imedpub.com]
Entire Body System
- Soft Tissue Mass
CT and later also PET-CT revealed a large soft tissue mass with avid accumulation of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose surrounding the distal esophagus. [infona.pl]
- Noncompliance
The surgeon accessed the mediastinum through the left thoracotomy and found a noncompliant well-defined mass surrounding the distal esophagus. Intraoperative histology showed nothing but common structures of pancreatic tissue. [infona.pl]
Gastrointestinal
- Lower Abdominal Pain
Case Report A previously healthy 38-year-old female presented to our institution for evaluation of episodic hematochezia and intermittent crampy lower abdominal pain. [karger.com]
- Early Satiety
CASE REPORT A Forty-five-year-old male presented with a six week history of early satiety, vomiting, and constipation consistent with gastric outlet obstruction. [pancreas.imedpub.com]
- Coffee Ground Emesis
While in the emergency room, he suffered an episode of heme-positive "coffee-ground" emesis, but refused nasogastric lavage. [thefreelibrary.com]
Liver, Gall & Pancreas
- Murphy's Sign
On physical examination, the right upper abdomen was tender to palpation with a positive Murphy's sign. Abdominal ultrasonographic examination showed multiple gallstones within a thin-walled gallbladder. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
On physical examination, the abdomen was tender to palpation and Murphy sign was positive. The patient underwent a cholecystecomy. [wjgnet.com]
Musculoskeletal
- Leg Pain
He presented to the emergency room following several days of severe leg pain, for which he had taken analgesics without relief of his symptoms. [thefreelibrary.com]
Neurologic

Workup
After comprehensive preoperative workup, the soft tissue mass was treated surgically according to intraoperative histology that revealed its benign nature. [infona.pl]
Provides all the necessary tools to make a comprehensive diagnostic workup including data from ancillary techniques and molecular findings whenever appropriate. [books.google.ro]
Such malignant transformation in ectopic pancreas, though rare, should be included in the diagnostic workup of gastric submucosal masses. [pancreas.imedpub.com]
A primary pancreatic tumor was excluded on preoperative imaging procedures, during surgery and on through diagnostic workup after surgery using computed tomography (CT) scan, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging in all cases. [nature.com]
Treatment
At birth, the neonate was found to have hypoglycemia unresponsive to treatment that resolved after cyst resection. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Unlike others on this topic, this text demonstrates how the endoscope incorporates pathophysiology, diagnostic, and treatment modalities into endoscopic practice. [books.google.ro]
Commonly, this condition can be resolved with conservative treatment. In rare cases of clinical relevant biliary or duodenal stenosis, surgical treatment is necessary. 2,6 2. [scielo.mec.pt]
General features (anatomic data, frequency, clinical and biologic signs, treatment) are discussed for all pathologies prior to description of imaging techniques, which include barium studies, ultrasonography and angiography, and above all CT. [books.google.it]
Prognosis
The book is divided into three main section - benign tumors, malignant tumors, and tumors with an indeterminate prognosis - reflecting the value of different imaging strategies as a function of a tumor's natural history. [books.google.it]
Treatment and prognosis Laparoscopic wedge resection is usually successful in removing the ectopic tissue, although its success is dependent on the location. [radiopaedia.org]
The prognosis of adenocarcinoma arising from ectopic pancreas is also unclear. [surgicalcasereports.springeropen.com]

A review of malignancy arising in the pancreas by Emerson and colleagues in 2004 concluded that adenocarcinoma arising in a pancreatic heterotopia may portend an improved prognosis compared with malignancy in the native pancreas, which may be attributed [pancreas.imedpub.com]
Etiology
We will review the etiology, imaging findings and clinical course of this anomaly, which should be considered in the differential diagnosis of newborns presenting with unexplained hypoglycemia. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

The etiology of ectopic pancreatic tissue is not yet clear, but it is believed to result from early separation of the pancreas during rotation of the gastrointestinal tract in the embryonic period [ 31 ]. [pancreas.imedpub.com]

The five subtypes as defined by Todani probably have different pathophysiologic features but are grouped together according to the cystic changes they have in common. [pubs.rsna.org]
Prevention
Recognition of carcinoma in pancreatic heterotopia is important to prevent its misinterpretation as a metastatic tumor. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Special chapters, such as the Designing Clinical Research in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, The Prevention of Infection Following Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Complications of Peptic Ulcer Disease, and Credentialing for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, help make [books.google.ro]
Several mechanisms mediate brain protection during hypothermia, including a possible prevention of apoptosis (programmed cell death). The role of apoptosis following ischemic and/or hypoxic brain injury is also reviewed. [ingentaconnect.com]
Both conservative treatment and follow-up or removal of HP to prevent future complications is the recommended treatment options. Resection of the ectopic rest is advisable when the condition is encountered coincidentally during the operation. [tropicalgastro.com]
