Presentation
We present two cases of umbilical hernia incarceration following large volume paracentesis (LVP) in patients with cirrhotic ascites. Both patients became symptomatic within 48 hours after the LVP. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Entire Body System
- Ascites
A value higher than 0.002 is regarded as exudative ascites, whereas a value lower than 0.002 is regarded as transudative ascites. [emedicine.medscape.com]

Endoscopic evaluation by ultrasound of low volume ascites and sampling of the ascitic fluid by endoscopic ultrasound guided paracentesis (EUS-P) is both a sensitive and specific modality for the determination of peritoneal implants, which is not only [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Inflammation
A 34-year-old man with a three-month history of intraocular inflammation after ocular trauma with a fir branch, had an acute unilateral fulminant iridocyclitis. The iris had a thick, gray, cheesy membrane composed of nodular lepromata. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
RESULTS FROM PARACENTESIS TEST Normal: A normal test returns no signs of infection, cancer, or inflammation Abnormal: Abnormal results could mean the following: An elevated number of white blood cells in the fluid could mean infection or inflammation [barnesjewish.org]
Other inflammations Peritoneal fluid is not just produced by infections. The pancreas can cause a massive sterile peritonitis when it leaks its digestive enzymes into the abdomen. [medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com]
Your blood pressure and vital signs will be monitored periodically, and the puncture site will be observed for signs of bleeding or inflammation, usually for a few hours. [healthcommunities.com]
- Pathologist
Exam Results Specimens are sent to an independent Pathologist for evaluation Your physician will receive a separate written report from the radiologist and pathologist within two to seven days. [advimaging.com]

- Anemia
Reverse the reversible (giving FFP and Vitamin K for elevated INR), replace the replaceable (giving PRBCs and IV fluid for significant anemia and hypotension). [imrespdx.com]
- Infertility
Here we report a 36-year-old woman with primary infertility due to endometriosis who underwent controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Respiratoric
- Aspiration

- Abdominal Mass
The patient subsequently developed an abdominal mass and ascites. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Absolute contraindications to paracentesis include Severe, uncorrectable disorders of blood coagulation An infected abdominal wall Poor patient cooperation, surgical scarring over the puncture area, large intra-abdominal masses, and severe portal hypertension [merckmanuals.com]

Other symptoms often include: Shortness of breath Nausea Swelling in legs and ankles Indigestion Vomiting Heartburn Loss of appetite Fever Hernia If you have a combination of these symptoms, see your doctor. [webmd.com]

Etiology
Removal of abdominal fluid is of value in evaluating patients with ascites of new onset or unknown etiology, and provides symptomatic relief in patients with known disease or in the setting of a decompensating clinical state. [web.archive.org]
Abdominal paracentesis is performed as a diagnostic procedure to establish the etiology of new-onset ascites or to rule out spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in patients with preexisting ascites. [nejm.org]
