Pediatric Meningioma

Presentation

Supplemental Information Previous Presentations Portions of this work were presented in poster form at the 83rd American Association of Neurological Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting held in Washington, DC, in May 2015. [thejns.org]

Notes Presented in part at the International Congress of Neuropathology meeting in Tokyo, Japan, September 17‐23, 2018. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Entire Body System

  • Fishing

Detailed data on ancillary studies (ie, progesterone receptor status, epithelial membrane antigen staining, Ki‐67 index, FISH studies and NF2 gene testing) was reviewed and recorded where possible. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Psychiatrical

  • Suggestibility

We reviewed charts for hormone-related disease or the use of exogenous hormones, but we did not find any evidence to suggest that any of the meningiomas were hormonally influenced. A few patients either had a smoking history or were obese. [thejns.org]

NGS libraries were prepared using the KAPA Hyper Prep Kit (KAPA Biosystems, Wilmington, MA) according to the manufacturer's suggested protocol. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Workup

Clinical review of patient data Patients' charts and pathology reports were reviewed for the following data: age at diagnosis, sex, familial syndrome(s), WHO grade, tumor location, treatment, recurrence, death and any additional diagnostic workup (immunohistochemistry [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Serum

  • Hyperglobulinemia

[…] and thus have a higher incidence in the pediatric population.17,20,28,33,34,36,39 In 1988 chordoid meningiomas were first described in a series of 7 pediatric patients who had symptoms of Castleman disease (fever, anemia, weight loss, and polyclonal hyperglobulinemia [thejns.org]

Treatment

What are the treatment options for meningiomas? It is very rare for a pediatric patient to die of meningioma — the five-year survival rate is over 95 percent. [childrenshospital.org]

One patient had 5 meningiomas and required treatment for recurrence. The other patient has not experienced a recurrence to date. [thejns.org]

Optimization of stereotactic radiotherapy treatment delivery technique for a base-of-skull meningioma's. [revistas.unimilitar.edu.co]

Thus, data generated from adult cohorts may be imperfectly suited to guiding diagnostic, prognostic and treatment decisions for children. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Prognosis

Hypomethylation of H3K27, which serves as a predictor of poor prognosis in adult meningioma (30), was not noted in any of our patients, as trimethylation was retained in 100% of specimens (n = 45). [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
