Presentation
A clinicopathological and immunohistochemical study of a fatal case of placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) is presented. PSTT is a rare variant of trophoblastic disease. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Immune System
-
Splenomegaly
Spider angiomata and splenomegaly are interesting clinical features previously described in association with placental-site trophoblastic tumors, and were demonstrated in this patient. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Entire Body System
-
Fishing
FISH study showed a gain on the short arm of chromosome 12 in the placental site trophoblastic tumor, proving that this component is of germ cell origin. The patient is alive and well 3 years after the orchiectomy without additional treatment. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Internal Bleeding
A case of tubal PSTT with the primary manifestation of internal bleeding at 30 weeks' gestation is presented. Emergency exploratory laparotomy and right partial salpingectomy were performed initially. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Respiratoric
-
Sputum
Upon her first visit to our clinic, she was in respiratory distress, and had cough with bloody sputum. Physical examination revealed no abnormal finding except wheezing. [wjso.biomedcentral.com]

Short Arm

Urogenital
-
Cesarean Section
She delivered by cesarean section at 35 weeks for fetal distress at which time a biopsy of the uterus revealed a placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT). [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Secondary Amenorrhea
A 20-year-old woman presented with secondary amenorrhea and irregular vaginal bleeding. Examination of the patient revealed elevated serum hCG and a uterine mass. The specimen obtained by curettage was diagnosed as possible PSTT. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Testicular Mass
We present a case of a 24-year-old man with a right testicular mass, 2.5 cm in largest diameter. Before orchiectomy, the serum level of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) was elevated, whereas that of alpha-fetoprotein was normal. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Foul Smelling Vaginal Discharge
A case of placental site trophoblastic tumor that extended to the cervix, with primary manifestation of amenorrhea and yellow foul-smelling vaginal discharge, is presented. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
The tumor was confined to the ovary as proven by the preoperative staging workup and the exploratory laparotomy. Microscopically, it was composed of intermediate trophoblastic cells with angioinvasive growth and deposition of fibrinoid material. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
Primary treatment was simple hysterectomy in three patients and radical hysterectomy in one patient. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
PSTT limited to the uterus is in a good prognosis group, but PSTT with metastasis is a lethal disease. We document a case of PSTT with multiple metastases and extremely poor prognosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology
The woman was noted to have polycythemia of uncertain etiology and was treated with serial phlebotomy. Placental-site trophoblastic tumor was diagnosed and hysterectomy was performed, with subsequent resolution of the polycythemia. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology Etiology is unknown. Diagnostic methods Chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels are usually low at about 10 to 100 IU/l (N 2 to 5 IU/l). [orpha.net]
Etiology is variable (Rh incompatibility, chomosomal abberations) and others. [atlases.muni.cz]

Summary Epidemiology About 200 cases have been described in the literature. [orpha.net]
[…] cells at the implantation site often arranged as sheets of polyhedral, round, or occasionally spindle-shaped cells that infiltrate the myometrium extensively. [2], [3] Because of the rarity of this type of tumor, there is little information about its epidemiology [advbiores.net]
