Presentation
Clinical History 76 year old female presents with painful defecation, rectal bleeding and iron deficient anaemia. Lower GI endoscopy revealed a rectal mass. [eurorad.org]
The patient did not present important complications in the immediate postoperative period. [scielo.br]
In the case of our patients, the most common symptom at initial presentation was abdominal pain. Only one out of five patients was asymptomatic at presentation, and his tumor was discovered incidentally on routine follow-up. [jgo.amegroups.com]
Case presentation This case report describes the presentation of leiomyosarcoma of the rectum. A 30-year-old man from the north of Morocco presented with rectorrhagia and constipation. [jmedicalcasereports.biomedcentral.com]
Thirty-two years later, she presented with signs of rectal bleeding. [hindawi.com]
Respiratoric
- Aspiration
Tissue sample was obtained with fine-needle aspiration that showed mesenchymal myoid cells that did not stain for CD117, chromogranin, or synaptophysin. Smooth muscle actin (SMA) was focally positive. [liebertpub.com]
Some cases of hepatic leiomyosarcoma diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology have been reported[13]. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
A fine needle aspiration of the liver lesion was performed and revealed a spindle cell tumor. The patient underwent a complete colonoscopy, which identified a right colonic mass. [jgo.amegroups.com]
Gastrointestinal
- Rectal Bleeding
Clinical History 76 year old female presents with painful defecation, rectal bleeding and iron deficient anaemia. Lower GI endoscopy revealed a rectal mass. [eurorad.org]
We report a patient case complaining of recurrent episodes of rectal bleeding and pelvic mass due to a rectal leiomyosarcoma, he had surgery with sphincter preserving. We discuss particularities of this rare histological type of tumor. [journalijdr.com]
Two years previously she was seen by her physician, complaining of rectal bleeding and pain following defecation. Examination disclosed a submucosal tumor on the anterior rectal wall, without ulceration of the mucosa. [jamanetwork.com]
Case presentation A 90-year-old man presented in 2013 with bright red bleeding per rectum and rectal pain. Thirteen years prior, he was diagnosed with a T2 N0 stage 2 squamous cell anal cancer after symptoms of rectal bleeding. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
These unusual tumors cause symptoms similar to those of more common anorectal diseases, namely, painful defecation and rectal bleeding. Often these tumors are initially asymptomatic due to their submucosal origin. [link.springer.com]
- Constipation
The main symptoms are constipation and a sense of rectal fullness. [link.springer.com]
He presented with a 1-year history of rectorrhagia and constipation. [jmedicalcasereports.biomedcentral.com]
CASE REPORT A 70-year-old male patient, with history of tenesmus, recent intestinal constipation and hematochezia with 3-month progression. [scielo.br]
- Rectal Mass
Clinical History 76 year old female presents with painful defecation, rectal bleeding and iron deficient anaemia. Lower GI endoscopy revealed a rectal mass. [eurorad.org]
The rectal mass was diagnosed as a rectal LMS. The tumor was very large and considered difficult to be removed by surgical intervention in that hospital. However, there were no other effective therapies except for surgical resection. [surgicalcasereports.springeropen.com]
On physical examination we found a mass in his rectum approximately 6 cm from his anal margin. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed a rectal mass with a parietal attachment that invaded the fascia and his perirectal tissue. [jmedicalcasereports.biomedcentral.com]
- Pelvic Mass
We report a patient case complaining of recurrent episodes of rectal bleeding and pelvic mass due to a rectal leiomyosarcoma, he had surgery with sphincter preserving. We discuss particularities of this rare histological type of tumor. [journalijdr.com]
- Rectal Pain
Case presentation A 90-year-old man presented in 2013 with bright red bleeding per rectum and rectal pain. Thirteen years prior, he was diagnosed with a T2 N0 stage 2 squamous cell anal cancer after symptoms of rectal bleeding. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Skin
- Ulcer
Lymphoma usually presents with excavation or as a grossly ulcerated mass with no extra-rectal component, accompanied by lymphadenopathy. [eurorad.org]
Examination disclosed a submucosal tumor on the anterior rectal wall, without ulceration of the mucosa. Through the anal canal, local excision was carried out, Jan. 23, 1950.The mass recurred, however, and was again excised, in September, 1951. [jamanetwork.com]
The tumor is an intraluminal or polypoid mass and, sometimes, with ulcerated, inflamed or necrotic mucosa. Some reports also describe intramural tumor, lobulated mass or transmural plaque-like lesion with extensive mucosa ulceration3,8. [scielo.br]
Pathologic Findings Macroscopically, the tumor was represented an exophytic homogenous lesion mm with irregular margins and ulcerated surface covered with clots of fibrin. [hindawi.com]
Pathologic Findings Macroscopically, the tumor was represented an exophytic homogenous lesion 45 × 25 mm with irregular margins and ulcerated surface covered with clots of fibrin. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Psychiatrical
- Suggestibility
In addition, they suggest that surgeries may not be adequate to this group, and that the use of adjuvant therapies should be considered5. [scielo.br]
The authors suggest that 8 years should be a cutoff edge for colorectal cancer screening among cervical cancer survivors. [hindawi.com]
However, when the characteristic CT findings are present, the specific diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma may be suggested (6). Liver cysts were identified by CT scan in one of our patients. [jgo.amegroups.com]
Treatment
Due to its rarity, the standard treatment has not been defined. The purpose of this study was to present the follow-up of a patient with leiomyosarcoma of medium rectum submitted to exclusive operative treatment. [scielo.br]
Treatment The patient was offered surgical management via abdominoperineal resection, but he declined. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
In regard to prognostic features and risk factors, the standard treatment for most types of cervical cancer represents a combination of surgical treatment and radiation therapy, such as external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy. [hindawi.com]
Given the uncommon nature of this tumor and the controversy about its treatment we report one case and review the literature in an attempt to report a particular evolution and to discuss the most appropriate treatment. [jmedicalcasereports.biomedcentral.com]
Prognosis
Prognosis is poor. Survival rates vary and depend of tumor staging. We report a patient case complaining of recurrent episodes of rectal bleeding and pelvic mass due to a rectal leiomyosarcoma, he had surgery with sphincter preserving. [journalijdr.com]
Prognosis is also poor; tumor size, histological grade, mitotic index, and local staging are the most known prognosis factors. [jmedicalcasereports.biomedcentral.com]
Do radiation-associated soft tissue sarcomas have the same prognosis as sporadic soft tissue sarcomas? J Clin Oncol 2010;28:2064–9 [PMC free article] [PubMed] [Google Scholar] 4. Singer S, Maki RG, O'Sullivan B. Soft tissue sarcoma. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Leiomyosarcoma seems to have a better prognosis than the GIST with the same index of mitoses8. [scielo.br]
A collected series of cases, and a case report of rectal leiomyosarcoma are presented to emphasize the remarkably poor prognosis especially when the lesion is treated by local excision. [link.springer.com]
Prevention
It also might prevent the recurrence of rectal LMS and contribute to prolong patient survival. Conclusions We reported a case of LMS in the lower rectum. It was successfully removed by the hybrid method of laparoscopic and TaTME approaches. [surgicalcasereports.springeropen.com]
