Presentation
Results of randomized prospective studies with a focus on single-port rectal surgery have not yet been presented. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Methods This was a retrospective study of a continuous series of 81 patients presenting histologically proven DIE who underwent preoperative investigations using both REU and MRI. [obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com]

- Familial Adenomatous Polyposis
UofL Physicians-Colon & Rectal Surgery is highly experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of colon and rectal cancer, including rare genetic forms, such as Familial Adenomatous Polyposis and Hereditary Non-polyposis Colorectal Cancer. [uoflphysicians.com]

Familial polyposis and HNPCC Familial adenomatous polyposis, or FAP, is an inherited disorder that accounts for about 1 to 3 percent of all colon cancers. [drexelmedicine.org]
There are two conditions whereby a person is born with an inherited trait that places them at extremely high risk for colon and rectal cancer, these are known as Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) and Hereditary non-Polyposis Colorectal Cancer (HN PCC [ssom.luc.edu]
- Pathologist
Included are medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, geneticists, and oncology nurses. [ssom.luc.edu]
But patients will suffer from profuse diarrhea, and when we take biopsies, and when the pathologist takes a look under the microscope, they will find inflammation only under the microscope. So that is why it's called microscopic colitis. [uchospitals.edu]
- Fever
A fever was present for 2 days after the operation but resolved on postoperative day 3. The patient complained of abdominal pain 5 days postoperatively. Computed tomography showed portal venous gas. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
This can quickly cause severe belly pain, fever, and the belly feels very hard. A smaller leak may cause you to not pass stool, have no desire to eat, and not do well or recover after surgery. [cancer.org]

- Anemia
Depending on your condition, your doctor may request imaging and other tests, including: Blood tests — Your colorectal surgeon may request blood tests to check for anemia, as well as signs of infection from bacteria or viruses. [loyolamedicine.org]
Gastrointestinal
- Diarrhea
A 66-year-old man who had undergone low anterior resection started having severe diarrhea the day after the operation. A fever was present for 2 days after the operation but resolved on postoperative day 3. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Causes include constipation, pregnancy, childbirth, obesity, heavy lifting, long periods of sitting, or diarrhea. We treat both internal and external hemorrhoids, surgically and non-surgically. [stamfordhealthmedicalgroup.org]

Sigmoidoscopy — If you have been experiencing abdominal pain, blood or mucus in your stool, diarrhea, constipation or other bowel changes, your doctor may use flexible or rigid sigmoidoscopy to obtain clear images of your colon and rectum. [loyolamedicine.org]

- Aggressive Behavior
Occasionally, additional treatment is needed after TEM if there are dangerous features of the tumor such as deep penetration, aggressive behavior, or invasion of the blood or lymphatic vessels. [ssom.luc.edu]

- Incontinence
AIM: Faecal incontinence may occur following rectal surgery and/or radiotherapy for rectal cancer. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Bowel incontinence Bowel incontinence, or fecal incontinence, is when a person is unable to control his or her gas or stool. Symptoms can be mild, with occasional staining of undergarments, or severe, completely restricting the person's activity. [drexelmedicine.org]
The team is currently the only center in the Tristate area offering the Interstim device for the treatment of fecal incontinence. [med.uc.edu]
The Division treats appropriate cases operatively—specializing in sphincter (anal)-preserving colon and rectal surgery for cancer and benign disease, laparoscopic colon surgery, surgery for anal incontinence and rectal prolapse, and both operative and [uphs.upenn.edu]

Prognosis
Portal venous gas has traditionally been considered an indicator of a poor prognosis due to bowel necrosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology
We sought to understand the etiology of ROR and assess the validity of simple ROR as a quality metric. METHODS: This was a single referral center retrospective review of all colon and rectal operations between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Prevention
To prevent this complication, the construction of a preventing stoma is usually adopted. It is not easy to decide whether to construct a protective stoma in patients with a medium risk of anastomotic leakage. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
