Presentation
A 5-mo-old infant presented with clinical picture of acute pyogenic meningitis and was treated with empirical antibiotic therapy for 14 d. But, 2 wk after the discharge, the child presented again with similar complaints. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Entire Body System
- Intermittent Fever
In this report, a 4-year-old female child suffering from acute lymphoid leukaemia is presented with high grade intermittent fever. Pustular lesions were observed over the right side of the scalp. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection
A 10-month-old boy was admitted to the hospital with recurrent urinary tract infections treated with antibiotics. Salmonella typhimurium was isolated from the urine samples obtained in urine bags. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Wound Infection
We report a case of postoperative wound infection and meningitis with Salmonella typhimurium in a 66-year-old woman who had been operated on for a cerebral meningioma. The diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic implications are discussed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Respiratoric
- Aspiration
Diagnosis was suspected by clinical symptoms and signs and confirmed by ultrasound, neck magnetic resonance imaging, aspiration cytology, and culture. The culture of fine-needle aspirate yielded Salmonella typhimurium. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Sputum
Blood and sputum cultures were obtained, and the patient was subsequently diagnosed with pulmonary Salmonella typhimurium infection. The organism was isolated from a sputum specimen only. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Gastrointestinal
- Lower Abdominal Pain
This report describes the cases of 2 pediatric patients who underwent surgery to address persistent pain in the right lower abdominal quadrant and complete intestinal obstruction, respectively. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Acute Abdomen
Because of the nature of the diagnostic process, a significant number of patients with Salmonella infection present with acute abdomen and undergo needless operations. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Skin
- Skin Lesion
Antibiotic therapy and tapering oral steroids led to a complete remission of skin lesions within 2 weeks. To our knowledge, this is the first report of Sweet's syndrome associated with salmonellosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Neurologic
- Dysarthria
A 63-year-old woman presented with 24 hours of dysarthria, confusion, and appendicular ataxia preceded by watery diarrhea, without fever, nausea, vomiting, meningeal signs, recent travel, or antibiotic use. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
- Dysmetria
At 3 months, after 3 weeks of IV ceftriaxone, she remained dysarthric with bilateral dysmetria. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
X-Ray
- Pericardial Effusion
The diagnosis was based on blood and pericardial effusion cultures. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Serum
- Helper Cells Decreased
These five patients had signs suggestive of the syndrome, plus evidence of disordered cellular immune function (lymphopenia, anergy, decreased T-helper cells, decreased proliferative responses, and a deficiency in mononuclear-cell alpha interferon production [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Microbiology
- Toxoplasma Gondii
Patients with defects in IFN-gamma- or IL-12-mediated immunity are susceptible to infections with Salmonella and non-tuberculous mycobacteria, but rarely suffer from infections with other intracellular pathogens such as Toxoplasma gondii. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Colonoscopy
- Colonic Ulcer
A rare case of a healthy infant with colonic ulcers caused by Salmonella typhimurium infection that presented with colonic perforation, hypovolemic, and septicemic shock is discussed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
In this paper, we investigated how the APP treatment in a minimal dosage affects the activity of Salmonella Typhimurium. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Abstract Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has the poorest prognosis among all malignancies and is resistant to almost all current therapies. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
This leads to a mortality rate of less than 1% among treated individuals who have an antibiotic-susceptible strain of S. typhi, making the outcome and prognosis for patients a positive one. [web.uconn.edu]
Etiology
Intussusception in the adult is unusual, and its etiology is mostly neoplastic. In most cases of intussusception, a polypoid tumor located in the terminal ileum invaginates within the cecum. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
According to a Ministry of Social Development survey, Salmonella was the etiological agent in 42.5 percent of the laboratory-confirmed foodborne disease outbreaks in Brazil between 1999 and 2009. [wqscert.com]
Epidemiology
Typhimurium is therefore very crucial for epidemiological surveillance. Phage typing has been used for decades for subtyping of S. Typhimurium to determine the epidemiological relation among isolates. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
