Presentation
We present a series of pregnant women with VL treated with either sodium stibogluconate or liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome), or both, in eastern Sudan over 16 months. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
A significant proportion of patients with AIN present with predominant extrarenal symptoms such as fever, skin rash, arthralgias and peripheral eosinophilia. [sjkdt.org]
Entire Body System
- Anemia
On investigation, the patient had anemia and pancytopenia (hemoglobin was 8 g/dL, total leukocyte count was 3800/mm 3 and platelet count was 80,000/mm 3 ). Total serum bilirubin was 3 mg/dL and conjugated was 1.2 mg/dL. [sjkdt.org]
Jaw & Teeth
- Metallic Taste
Minor side-effects, such as pain at the site of injection (two cases), mild diminution in appetite (12 cases), metallic taste in mouth (six cases), and joint pain (two cases), were also observed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Sodium stibogluconate can also cause a reduced appetite, metallic taste in mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, tiredness, joint pains, muscle aches, dizziness, and anaphylaxis. [en.wikipedia.org]
Gastrointestinal toxicity Patients treated for some one to two weeks with parenteral antimony compounds frequently reported anorexia, nausea and vomiting with some complaints of abdominal pain, a metallic taste and diarrhoea (Davis, 1968). [inchem.org]
Skin
- Disfiguring Scar
Skin lesions of CL heal slowly, causing disfiguring scars if remaining untreated. Current recommended treatment for CL comprises systemic administration of sodium stibogluconate (SSG) for 2-3 weeks. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Psychiatrical
- Suggestibility
Free amastigotes in the bone marrow were forming junctions with previously undescribed cytoplasmic buddings of macrophages prior to engulfment; these buddings were suggested to be transient parasitophorous vacuoles. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Further experiments suggested that inhibition of glycolysis and the citric acid cycle may partially explain the inability to phosphorylate ADP. [dx.doi.org]

- Cytopenia
Reversible abdominal pain/pancreatitis, arthralgias, myalgias, headache, fatigue, mild cytopenias, and elevated transaminases were more commonly present in the SSG treated participants, whereas blistering, oozing, and erythema were more common in the [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Treatment
The patient's QTc, amylase and C-reactive protein also fell following initiation of steroid treatment. The SbV treatment course was completed successfully. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Other tests that are likely candidates fordiagnosis and prognosis of VL in the future are the antigen-detecting KATEX test and a eld-adaptable version of PCR,which has to be simple, inexpensive and easily available(Sundar, 2003).Interestingly, all nine [docslide.net]
Etiology
AIN is a frequent cause of AKI and accounts for 15-27% of renal biopsies performed for AKI. [16] Drug-induced AIN is currently the most common etiology; antimicrobials and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the most frequent offending agents. [sjkdt.org]

For patients at risk for progression to mucocutaneous leishmaniasis, first-line treatment in the United States entails the use of sodium stibogluconate (SSG), which is obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under an investigational [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
It is available in the United States on a named-patient basis from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The dose of sodium stibogluconate is by slow intravenous infusion (at least five minutes with cardiac monitoring). [oncologydrugs.co.in]
