SpCC develops due to a variety of reasons, including genetic predisposition, however, it may also be caused by a combination of other factors, including injury and inflammation in patients that are thought to be predisposed to this type of tumor. [spandidos-publications.com]
This disorder is most common in elderly men, and it is occasionally associated with chronic inflammation or with trauma. Tracheopathia osteoplastica can manifest clinically as nonspecific signs and symptoms, although stridor and dyspnea are common. [lesterthompsonmd.com]

- Surgical Procedure
In the present study, CT was required to perform the surgical procedures on the patients. Surgical removal is the preferred method, with radiation providing an effective adjunctive therapy. [spandidos-publications.com]
Newer, more technically sophisticated voice-conserving surgical procedures have been developed. [clinicalgate.com]
Before radiotherapy the patients were evaluated to determine the surgical procedure of choice. Either 66-68.4 Gy (33-38 fractions) or 63-65 Gy (28-29 fractions) of radiation therapy (RT) were administered. [thedoctorsdoctor.com]

- Hoarseness
Case Report A 70-year-old male presented to our department with a 1-year history of progressive hoarseness and stridor since last 1 week. [ccij-online.org]
About 1.5% of the overall population suffers from hoarseness; among the most common causes of hoarseness are vocal fold nodules and polyps. [lesterthompsonmd.com]
Nearly all patients experienced hoarseness (n = 165 [88%] patients) for a mean duration of 11.0 months. Patients admitted to smoking (n = 162 [87%] patients) and/or alcohol use (n = 90 [48%] patients). [journals.lww.com]
In our study, the main presenting symptoms were hoarseness of voice in 69.8% of patients; Licitra et al. [22] reported that hoarseness is the main attending symptom. [ejo.eg.net]
These include: Hoarseness Voice strain or weakness Sensation of a lump in the throat Constant coughing Difficulty swallowing Scratchy throat Ear pain Anyone with these symptoms for an extended period of time should seek medical attention to rule out laryngeal [drseanbaileystlent.com]

- Foreign Body Sensation
Case three A 57-year-old male presented at the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (Hangzhou, China) with a one-year history of pharyngeal foreign body sensation. [spandidos-publications.com]
Neurologic
- Paresthesia
The patient stated there was no tenderness or paresthesia, however, the mass had been punctured and pus had been extracted at the Jiangshan Beilin Hospital (Jiangshan, China). [spandidos-publications.com]
Workup
Thus, immediate workup should be performed when any pain or swelling occurs in an irradiated field—the clinical diagnosis of RIS can be difficult due to fibrosis and induration within the irradiated field. [oapublishinglondon.com]
Treatment
Progressing from fundamental principles through specific treatment strategies for the cancers of each organ system, it also addresses the effects of radiation on normal structures and the avoidance of complications. [books.google.com]
We discuss the patient presentation, voice assessment, surgical treatment, and a review of the literature. [experts.umich.edu]
However, there was a recurrent carcinoma (rT2N0) 6 months after the treatment. Therefore, a total laryngectomy was performed. Most laryngeal spindle cell carcinomas in Japan are found at an early stage. [jstage.jst.go.jp]
Histology, histogenesis, biology and treatment of the rare spindle cell carcinoma of the larynx are presented. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Worst prognosis. Undifferentiated type (UT). Intermediate prognosis. EBV association. Nonkeratinizing type (NT). Good prognosis. EBV association. [librepathology.org]
If detected early, it has a very good prognosis. We present a case of SpCC in a 70-year-old male, who presented with progressive hoarseness since 1 year. [ccij-online.org]
The prognosis appears to be related to site, reflecting the feasibility of surgical resectability. RIS of the extremities has the best prognosis, whereas that involving the vertebral column, pelvis, shoulder girdle and neck has the worst prognosis. [oapublishinglondon.com]
The prognosis for spindle cell breast cancer is basically similar to the prognosis for other more common breast carcinomas, though at times it can be a highly aggressive neoplasm. [breast-cancer.ca]

Etiology
الصفحة 53 - A longitudinal study of respiratory viruses and bacteria in the etiology of acute otitis media with effusion - Henderson FW, Collier AM, Sanyal MA et al. [books.google.com]
Radiation, sun exposure, tobacco use, trauma, and alcohol consumption have been implicated as etiological factors in many cases. [4] Histological appearance may vary from case to case and even in the same patient in different areas. [idoj.in]

A number of etiologies may be present synchronously, such that an infection may develop in association with radiation therapy, for example. Therefore, multiple etiologies may need to be addressed. [lesterthompsonmd.com]
Etiology The exact cause of laryngeal cancer is still unknown. However, several interrelated co-factors (mainly tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption), are clearly associated with an increased incidence in laryngeal cancer. [atlasgeneticsoncology.org]

The current thinking is that these agents may delay or prevent subclinical cancer from manifesting as clinical disease but are less likely to prevent cellular transformation. [clinicalgate.com]
Early detection is the main hope for survival in RIS cases because there are no preventive measures to safeguard patients with cancer against RIS apart from limiting radiotherapy or using surgery as the primary treatment modality. [oapublishinglondon.com]
Post operative radiation therapy is used in most cases in the hopes of preventing local recurrence or metastasis. [breast-cancer.ca]
Goodman et al. [25] reported that resection of the arytenoids may interrupt physiologic airway protection in the early postoperative period; thus, a carful postoperative follow-up is needed to prevent the risk of pneumonia. [ejo.eg.net]
