Workup

Glycosuria
  • Greater stability of fasting blood sugar was found on tolazamide; patients also had less glycosuria and lower fasting blood sugar on tolazamide.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
  • The appearance of persistent acetonuria with glycosuria indicates that the patient is a type I diabetic who requires insulin therapy. Maximum Dose Daily doses of greater than 1000 mg are not recommended.[wikidoc.org]
Fasting Hypoglycemia

Liver Biopsy
  • Liver biopsy confirmed the degree and type of injury which consisted of severe portal inflammation, bile duct proliferation and early fibrosis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Treatment

  • We have described a patient who had self-limited cholestatic jaundice after treatment with chlorpropamide. Subsequent treatment with tolazamide resulted in recurrence of jaundice, which disappeared after cessation of treatment.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Prevention

  • The article also explains why lifestlyle changes such as diet and exercise to prevent or even treat type II diabetes are not heavily promoted or usually reimbursed.[worstpills.org]
  • Furthermore, this regimen may be helpful in prevention of extreme plasma glucose excursions observed in brittle diabetic individuals.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
