BACKGROUND: It is not clear why some patients with coeliac disease (CD) present with severe symptoms and small intestinal mucosal damages while others present with milder symptoms and no frank enteropathy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Entire Body System
-
Gangrene
We report a case of Toxoplasma gondii and Clostridium perfringens co-infection complicating uterine gas gangrene following a term pregnancy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Cat Scratch
Our results suggest that the clinical symptoms were most likely due to cat scratch disease rather than to acute toxoplasmosis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Respiratoric
-
Respiratory Distress
We discuss a case of acute respiratory distress caused by Toxoplasma gondii on Day 32 after liver transplantation. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Cardiovascular
-
Chest Pain
The patient complained of intense chest pain, asthenia, arthralgia, low-grade fever, neck lymphadenopathy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Musculoskeletal
-
Arthralgia
The patient complained of intense chest pain, asthenia, arthralgia, low-grade fever, neck lymphadenopathy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Skin
-
Purpura
We report the case of a 16-year-old previous healthy adolescent who presented with bleeding due to immune-mediated thrombocytopenic purpura during an acute acquired T. gondii infection. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Neurologic
-
Aphasia
Abstract The association of unusual types of aphasia and epilepsy (Landau-Kleffner syndrome) has been described in three children. The children were 5 to 11 years of age and all have EEG abnormalities. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

-
Speech Disorder
Speech disorders appeared after epileptic seizures. No organic causes of the disease have been found in axial computed tomography. In all described cases the increased titer of IgG antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii has been observed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Workup
The pre-transplant workup included several tests for infectious diseases, tests of organ function, radiology studies, and markers of malignancy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
X-Ray
-
Bilateral Pulmonary Infiltrate
The patient's condition worsened, with development of shortness of breath, bilateral pulmonary infiltrates on chest radiographs, sepsis, and shock. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage showed the presence of Toxoplasma gondii. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Microbiology
-
Clostridium Perfringens
We report a case of Toxoplasma gondii and Clostridium perfringens co-infection complicating uterine gas gangrene following a term pregnancy. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Bartonella Henselae
We report on a young patient with chronic cervical lymphadenopathy and serological and histological evidence for infection with Bartonella henselae and Toxoplasma gondii. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Other Pathologies
-
Trophoblastic Cells
BACKGROUND: Toxoplasma gondii, a single-celled parasite commonly found in mammals, has been shown to induce trophoblast cell apoptosis and subsequently cause fetal damage and abortion. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
HLA Type
-
HLA-DQ2
However, patients with severely abnormal histology carried HLA-DQ2 risk alleles (92 patients (61%)) more often than the controls and those with mild histological abnormalities. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
The difficulties in treatment decision in this rare case are discussed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment was continued until delivery. [dx.doi.org]
Prognosis
Thus, the infection by Toxoplasma gondii should be taken into account in the aetiology of either acute pericarditis or myocarditis, because a specific treatment is available, which can improve on the prognosis of the disease. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Epidemiology
TRIAL REGISTRATION: This is an epidemiological survey, therefore trial registration was not required. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Pathophysiology
T.gondii infection is becoming clinically relevant in psychiatric disorders and future mechanistic studies are required to elucidate the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. [jad-journal.com]
Further studies are now needed to investigate the relation between T. gondii infection and GAD/OCD and to determine the pathophysiology involved. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
On the other hand, the dysregulation of catecholamines, especially of both norepinephrine and dopamine, has been proposed in the pathophysiology of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). [journals.lww.com]
Prevention
The benefits of prophylactic vaccination could be: (1) Prevention of human infection or at least of clinical disease; (2) Prevention of infection in animals raised for human consumption, thereby preventing transmission; (3) Immunization of cats to disrupt [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
The T-263 strain of T. gondii is a live mutant strain designed to reduce or prevent oocyst shedding by cats by developing only partial infection in the feline intestinal tract. [doi.org]
