Presentation
Here we present three historic T. pallidum genomes (two from T. pallidum ssp. pallidum and one from T. pallidum ssp. pertenue) that have been reconstructed from skeletons recovered from the Convent of Santa Isabel in Mexico City, operational between the [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Epigastric Pain
A 49-year-old man complaining of epigastric pain underwent endoscopy, during which thickened stomach folds below the fundus were observed. Microscopic examination of gastric tissue biopsy specimens revealed chronic active gastritis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
-
Rectal Mass
The rectal mass and symptoms resolved following penicillin therapy. This case and a review of previously reported cases of anorectal syphilis emphasize the significance of these often neglected and misdiagnosed lesions of syphilis. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Skin

Cutaneous Manifestation
With the use of immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase methods we have succeeded in identifying T. pallidum in the gastric wall of a patient who initially had cutaneous manifestations of secondary syphilis and gastric symptoms. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Treatment
Abstract Currently, the efficacy of syphilis treatment is measured with anti-lipid antibody tests. These can take months to indicate cure and, as a result, syphilis treatment trials require long periods of follow-up. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prognosis
Its prognosis is poor and optimal therapy has not been determined. Tuberculous meningitis has a high mortality in those also infected with HIV, especially in the developing world, and better therapies are urgently needed. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
[…] favorable prognosis for patients diagnosed with either primary or secondary syphilis 20% of untreated patients with tertiary syphilis die of the disease prognosis for tertiary syphilis depends on extent of scarring and tissue damage with adequate treatment [medbullets.com]
Etiology
The etiological agent of yaws, Treponema pallidum subspecies pertenue (T. pertenue), was discovered by Aldo Castellani in 1905 shortly after Schaudinn and Hoffmann discovered the etiological agent of syphilis, T. pallidum subspecies pallidum. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
They were the first investigators to find the etiological agent of syphilis, described under the name of Spirochaeta pallida. [scielo.br]
The spirochete Treponema pallidum (Tp), the etiologic agent of syphilis, causes a multistage sexually transmitted infection (STI). [certest.es]

Vascular inflammation is a complex and multifactorial pathophysiological process that plays a crucial role in the development and progression of disease (Clarke et al., 2010; Iwata et al., 2010; Yang et al., 2018; Zeng et al., 2018). [frontiersin.org]
The severity of the skeletal response in individual 133 together with the young age at death (6 months, /- 3 months) supports a diagnosis of congenital yaws; however, the known pathophysiology of T. pallidum ssp. pertenue infections, namely that skeletal [journals.plos.org]
