Entire Body System
- Fatigue
Our patient had typical symptoms such as weight loss, generalized weakness, fatigue, and hypoglycemia. [e-sciencecentral.org]
Other symptoms may include weakness, fatigue, and weight loss. You will need to take hormones to replace those that the adrenal glands are not making. [hopkinsmedicine.org]

Symptoms of adrenal insufficiency may occur, such as fatigue and abdominal pain. When >90% of the cortex has been destroyed, patients may present with Addisonian crisis, which can be life-threatening. [radiopaedia.org]
A 49-year-old man was admitted to the hospital due to fatigue, progressive anorexia accompanied with nausea and vomiting, weight loss, and pigmentation. Ultrasound and CT showed soft tissue masses in bilateral adrenal glands. [journals.lww.com]
- Weakness
A person with Addison disease feels weak, tired, and dizzy when standing up after sitting or lying down and may develop dark skin patches. [merckmanuals.com]
Other symptoms may include weakness, fatigue, and weight loss. You will need to take hormones to replace those that the adrenal glands are not making. [hopkinsmedicine.org]

Once the bacteria invade the space, the amount of fluid increases dramatically and compresses the lung, causing shortness of breath (dyspnea) and sharp chest pain that worsens with a deep breath (pleurisy). [healthcommunities.com]
Symptoms of adrenal insufficiency may occur, such as fatigue and abdominal pain. When >90% of the cortex has been destroyed, patients may present with Addisonian crisis, which can be life-threatening. [radiopaedia.org]
Kennedy also suffered from serious back problems and was in so much pain that in 1954, when he was a US Senator, surgery became necessary. This can be an extremely hazardous undertaking in someone with Addison’s disease. [healthdoctrine.com]
- Inflammation
In men, epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) may occur. Adrenal Tuberculosis TB of the adrenal glands can lead to adrenal insufficiency. [healthcommunities.com]
Fig. 2 Microscopically, the resected specimen revealed chronic granulomatous inflammation with central necrosis and multinucleated giant cells (H&E, ×100). [jsms.sch.ac.kr]
In a study conducted on mice, there was a strong and significant correlation between mortality and adrenal inflammation, but not with plasma cytokine concentration or systemic inflammation [ 20 ]. [intechopen.com]
However, histopathology result of urine cytology showed non specific chronic inflammation. [asean-endocrinejournal.org]
In Addison’s disease, the adrenal cortex is damaged and becomes unable to produce adequate amounts of the following hormones: Cortisol (termed a glucocorticoid hormone), which decreases inflammation, controls metabolism, and maintains blood sugar levels [innerbody.com]
- Asymptomatic
The patient remains asymptomatic and well. The patient also has an emergency supply of hydrocortisone for both oral and i.m. administration in the event of intercurrent illness. [edmcasereports.com]
References: [7] [8] [9] Pathophysiology Clinical features Latent infection Asymptomatic The patient is not contagious. [amboss.com]
Renal Tuberculosis This can cause asymptomatic pyuria (white blood cells in the urine) and can spread to the reproductive organs and affect reproduction. In men, epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) may occur. [healthcommunities.com]
Surprisingly, large tumors, in which many of the catecholamines are metabolized internally and released mostly as by-products such as metanephrine and vanillyl mandelic acid (VMA), are more likely to be asymptomatic [ 29 ]. [intechopen.com]
One can be a carrier of TB and asymptomatic which only becomes active during times of low immunity. Hence why many people with AIDS get it. However a sharp blow by a virus could allow TB to come out of hiding after many years being dormant. [curezone.org]

Periodically evaluate for long-term complications of corticosteroid use; screen for osteoporosis, gastric ulcers, depression, and glaucoma. [unboundmedicine.com]
It is also possible that low adrenal androgen levels may increase the risk of osteoporosis. [patient.info]
Treatment with steroids is associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis which is a condition which may cause bones to fracture or become less dense. [adrenalfatiguesolution.com]
This may lead to the complications of long-term steroid treatment including avascular hip necrosis (destruction of the round head of the femur which forms the hip joint), osteoporosis, worsening of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. [netdoctor.co.uk]
If you take a higher dose than necessary for a long time, there's a risk of problems such as weakened bones (osteoporosis), mood swings and difficulty sleeping (insomnia). [nhsinform.scot]

- Hyperpigmentation
Causes melanocyte-stimulating activity and, together with ACTH produces typically skin/mucous membrane hyperpigmentation seen in primary Addison’s disease only (Milaim’s case). [positivehealth.com]

Treatment
The proportion of nonresponders decreased from 50% before treatment to 30% after treatment; androgen function did not improve in any of the cases. [esim.eg.net]

Every Addisonian should wear an identification bracelet stating that he or she has the disease, to insure proper emergency treatment. An identification card outlining treatment is also suggested. [nadf.us]
Prognosis
The prognosis for any patient with adrenal insufficiency will depend on the underlying cause. In those patients in whom the prognosis is not affected by the underlying pathology, replacement therapy should result in a return to health. [patient.info]

Abstract Since Addison's classic and comprehensive description of the disease bearing his name, 1, 2 accepted etiologic factors have included tuberculosis and cytotoxic contracted adrenals (atrophy) almost exclusively. [annals.org]
Nerup [10] reported that the majority (66%) had idiopathic type of AD, whereas only 7% had tuberculosis etiology. In developing countries, around 50% of the patients with AD have a tubercular etiology [1]. [esim.eg.net]
