Presentation
Advanced Coats' disease and retinoblastoma can both present with the triad of a retinal detachment, the appearance of a subretinal mass, and dilated retinal vessels. [scienceopen.com]
The condition can present at any age but is usually detected between the ages of 40 years and 60 years. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Exudative macular changes were present in 10 patients. Download figure Open in new tab Download powerpoint Figure 1 (A) VPTR in the lower retinal periphery in a 31 year old male patient who presented with floaters and loss of vision. [bjo.bmj.com]
RVPT usually presents as a solitary mass in the retinal periphery. The inferior retina is affected in 60 to 90% of cases and the temporal retina in 42 to 75% of cases (Figure 1)(7,13). [aboonline.org.br]
Respiratoric
- Aspiration
Analysis of subretinal aspirates is an extremely accurate method of confirming the diagnosis of Coats' disease. [scienceopen.com]
Treatment
TREATMENT AND PROGNOSIS The ideal treatment scheme for RVPTs is yet to be determined. A number of different treatment approaches have been described with variable success rates, usually on case reports or small case series(7,9,10). [aboonline.org.br]
Treatment must be performed in those cases where the sight is threatened [pesquisa.bvsalud.org]
Most authors agree that treatment is indicated for lesions associated with complications which lead to a loss in vision.1 16 18 Some authors advocate treatment at an early stage because smaller lesions are easier to treat and early treatment might save [bjo.bmj.com]
Hard exudates threatening the fovea have also been removed successfully (Groenewald, Damato, unpublished data); however, this treatment requires further evaluation. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Etiology
ETIOLOGY AND HISTOPATHOLOGY The etiology of RVPT is yet to be completely understood. [aboonline.org.br]
Prevention
[…] retinopathy of prematurity, or long standing retinal detachment.2-9 In the majority of cases, however, such an association was not observed.1 10 The correct diagnosis of VPTR is of clinical importance as these lesions may lead to visual loss that can be prevented [bjo.bmj.com]
